Dan Henderson @ 170?

Dont you guys remember how he was completely dominated in the ground by Shields at MW who moved down to WW later? The second he drops to WW he gets rag dolled again by Hendricks, Lawler, Rory, Woodley and beat on the ground, or just simply outclassed in the ground by Condit and submitted in the 1st, all of them are not that dumb to stand and trade with him.

Hendo could make 170 easy; it's probably the natural weight-class (post-cut) for a man his size.

Face it, against fighters like Condit, Hendricks, Lawler and Woodley he wouldn't even be the bigger man.
Good post. Henderson can definitely make 170, it's a matter of whether he wants to or not. He's so far away from title contention at 185, that if chasing the title is important to him, he'll get a renewed fresh start at 170 (probably straight into a #1 contendership fight against Hendricks).

But if he wants big name fights at 185/195/205, then he might just stay there for the convenience. Though, there's not really that many name fighters left for Henderson to fight who he hasn't fought already.

let's look at it this way, from 1994-2000 hendo competed internationall at 82 KG or more. that's 187 lbs. if he wasn't competing at 170 in his 20s there's no way that's happening in his 40s. he doesn't have a lot of weight to lose and can't lose that much water to cut. it's not reasonable to consider.

82 KG is 180 pounds. And that was same day weigh ins.

He has fought at 176 before. Here:

He obviously could make 170, but he doesn't like cutting weight, said it is harder as he got older, and he wouldn't get much benefit out of going to 170. He is never at a strength disadvantage anyway, save for the Cormier fight.

Yep. Didn't hurt a battle-torn Robbie Lawler to go down to 170 after a long run at 185.

And age isn't as big of a factor as it's being made out to be. Couture was cutting from 225 down to 205 at age 42. Henderson seems to be slimming down naturally as it is, and he's only 5'11".

He ain't even that.

FILA Database, which doesn't lie, unlike the UFC, has him at 180 cm. Which is a little short of it. He ain't a big guy at all.

Robbie is smaller than Hendo. And Robbie is significantly younger than Hendo.

Stop pretending like you know anything about cutting weight. It isn't easy and it's brutal for older fighters.

People on these boards act like they actually have an idea about this shit.

Not really.

how many fights does he have left on his contract? they should all be against shogun at whatever weight they agree to.

You do realize that you can't tell shit from those pictures, right?

Yeah pics can be deceiving. Because even stuff like bone density makes a difference. Some guys are just heavier than others.

No, you can. Not what you wanted, though.

They're roughly the same height.

And Robbie Lawler isn't exactly skinny.

No he is not. Robbie and Hendo are the same size. Have you even met Hendo. He is not a big guy. He is just a badass Lawler is a big guy

When Lawler fought Sobral, he weighed in at 195. It was a 195 catchweight, so he probably was cutting. Henderson has weighed in below that on a few occasions. When he fought little Nog, he was already 35, and he was coming up from fighting at 183. Dan only weighed in at 190 pounds.

When he fought Vitor the first time, he was only 196.

You're comparing a bunch of pictures at different angles. Some of them the fighters have shirts on, others don't.

You can't tell shit from comparing those pictures at all.

Cormier should go LW too.

I've seen Robbie Lawler at multiple angles, since I've watched him fight numerous times. He is very muscular.

He also is just about the same height as Dan. They aren't trick photography. Maybe Lawler is insecure and stands on his tippy toes. I dunno. Maybe there is that.

Not really.

To be fair, Robbie looks like he's at walk around weight with a little extra meat on him, while his opponents look drained.

People have different bone and muscle density. Robbie's upper body is quite muscled but his legs are skinny.

From everything that is said by Rogan (Schaub has mentioned it too), Hendo is a dense motherfucker.

This is all kind of pointless anyways as there is no way Hendo goes down to 170.

love how the words "definitely" and "obviously can" are getting thrown around based solely on the fact people similar size can do it, because you know, everybody is apparently the same lol

the sole reason Hendo took fights at 205 was because the cut to 185 was brutal for him, but you know he can "easily" and "obviously" and "definitely" do it now at 44 years old lol

This picture is of him at 202lbs. without draining himself at all, somebody please tell me how he's gonna lose 30lbs. of water as lean and non muscular as he is. Because he "obviously" and "definitely" can do it, please explain.

If you want more concrete examples, I added the weights, which should eliminate ambiguity, right? When Lawler fought at a 195 catchweight bout not all that long ago, he hit the limit of 195.

When Dan fought over 183/185...he weighed in lower than 195 on multiple occasions, and just above it numerous times.

Robbie Lawler is bigger here:

Than Dan Henderson here:

It ain't a matter of camera angles or shading, Dan only weighed in at 193 pounds. And he wasn't a kid, he was almost 30.

And Hendo still looks noticeably more lean than Robbie does in that picture. Again, this doesn't prove much. I don't doubt they are similar in size, but Hendo has weighed in at weights higher than Robbie ever has while maintaining a noticebly lower body fat percentage.

People are right when they say it is a moot point, because he ain't doing it, but he has almost done it before as an adult.

27 years old. 176 pounds he weighed in at for this fight.
