Flyweight champ Daigo Higa ties national record for consecutive knockouts

NAHA – Daigo Higa scored a first-round knockout of Mexico’s Moises Fuentes to win the second defense of his WBC flyweight title on Sunday.

The 22-year-old Higa, improved to 15-0 in his pro career with every win coming by knockout. Fuentes, the ninth-ranked challenger and a former world champ, saw his pro record drop to 25-5 with one draw.

Higa’s 15 straight knockouts ties the record for a Japanese boxer held by Tsuyoshi Hamada and Akibee Ushiwakamaru, and extends Higa’s Japanese record for most consecutive knockouts to start a pro career.

Higa is supposed to be at the next Superfly card. My guess is he's hunting either the Nietes/Reveco winner or the Dalakian/Viloria winner, maybe both.

That's a pretty quick turn around if he's gonna be fighting again this month.

Oh I meant he's going to be at the fight, not that he's fighting on the card itself lol. I think he just wants to see who wins Viloria/Dalakian and who wins Nietes/Reveco because they'll have the WBA and IBF titles.

Ok. That makes more sense.

I like Higa's style. Good to see some actual infighting in this era.

higa has serious power and speed
plus those unorthodox combinations, he uses every angle.. rare to see at that young age.
which gives him a definite high KO percentage

only 22 yrs old. gonna be a problem for anyone.
nietes better not duck.

These japanese dudes seem to have great body punching which is great to see.

He looks promising but we got to see him step up that competition to really gauge him

@ironfist05 whos a good fight for him at this weight?
The Nietes/Reveco winner should be top of the list, that's a fantastic fight. The Viloria/Dalakian winner will have the WBA title and will be a good challenge. Sho Kimura is at the WBO helm but is fairly mediocre. Ioka retired, which makes me sadboi, but he's still young, so a comeback is far from impsossible.

FlW is a little dry right now, but there are some young guys in there: Kosei Tanaka just moved up and Stamp Kiatniwat is still talented, though he should be rebuilt. Andrew Selby is fairly mediocre. Muhammad Waseem isn't young but he's decent (that fight will likely happen since I htink he's Higa's mandatory).

I'd like to see some ofthe 108ers move up eventually, fights with Taguchi and Ken Shiro would be fun to watch.
