custom winning gear.

I've suspected something for a long time, and now I'm 100% sure of it.

The FG-5000 headgears that Manny and Margarito used on 24/7 have a traditional buckle up strap and NOT the plastic clip that everyone else gets.

Watch the video above and look at the strap, then skip through to 3:20 on the video below and you can see Robert Garcia putting on Margarito's headgear. The strap is green as well.

Nice find. I never noticed that. Go for it, that's what tax return are for.

To the TS. Grant's facebook page has crazy custom colors. One trick I use is to do a google search on what ever color combo I'm interested and tie it into something leather based. burgundy/black/gold sneakers or white/gold shoes, etc. Theres' also an iphone/ipad app called color fashion, it lets you change the color of your pictures. Here's a quick example of a black Winning glove I changed to blue.

Nice. Not sure how much more it would cost. Nice thing to have but I'm not sure if its worth more than $40 more bucks.

Chris Arreola has some pink Winning gear. Maybe it should be called "Areola Pink" lol.

Floyd rocking the sky blue headgear (not the normal blue) and some green gloves:

Also, if you go to google image search and type in "purple winning headgear" there was an old review on boxingscene that had headgear, gloves and cup in purple. For some reason I cant link the images though.

I think that covers most of the custom colours.

throughout the video you see Juan marquez's brown winnings I might pop on and some guy with white winnings with a black thumb.

I dunno if Winnings does multicolor gear, I have only seen solid colors. Grants arw doing some crazy multicolor gear right now.

Great video! The brown gloves are actually faded gold gloves gonzaginator was talking about earlier.

I wonder If I could ask for this colour scheme somehow because I love the look, if not I guess I'm gonna have to get it gold.

Yeah, I've seen the work they have done on their Facebook page. The thing is I already have Reyes gloves and I'm guessing since grant is also Mexican there won't be much of a difference so I think I'm sticking with winning.

You don't buy this colour, you earn it. Buy the gold and then spend the next 5 years making it into brown.

They can do multicolour but as far as I know no one really asks for it, everyone seems to just get a single colour.

Your right about Grant, they are doing some crazy stuff!

You don't like the plastic clip? I prefer it over the metal buckle or velcro. It's easy on and easy off and you can tighten it by just yanking on it.

That is something I never understood about Winning either, why are they set on the plastic clip? the little steel buckle isn't going to do anything, and all the pros get the buckle; I wonder what Winning would say if you asked for it, +30%?

There is a chance of it breaking, and I haven't had a buckle come lose, I have seen people need to retighten the strap after rounds.

I can't seem to find anybody complain about it, I searched on Google. But I'm sure a buckle would be a plus over the strap

I am sure there is a reason why the pros request the buckle over the clip.

They have the money. But like I said, I would prefer the buckle over the clip, but I'm not sure if its worth what winning is asking, assuming it would be pricey like everything else on their site.

I would get it gold and earn the colour but my gym is a poor gym. I've been in and out of the gym for almost a year now, so just walking in with gold $455 winnings while everyone else trains with $50 Everlast and some 7 year old Reyes and 5 year old imfs for sparring. would be like a slap to the face.

You're right about the durability of a buckle over a plastic clip, but for a regular Joe like me I'd take the convenience of a plastic clip any day. Plus if it ever breaks, that's like $2-$3 at REI to replace it.

When I first got the headgear and saw the nylon strap and plastic clip, I thought "for this much money they couldn't get me a metal buckle and a leather chin strap, what the hell", but after using it my tune changed to "why didn't anyone think of this before".

Maybe the other guys/gals can share their experiences.

Take a big guess why they don't use that system with other helmets (biking etc.). The metal buckle sucks. You don't get a custom fit, it's either too lose or too tight because you have to chose one of those stupid holes in the leather, like in a belt.

With the plastic clip you can get a custom fit, it's a lot more comfortable. Plus it's lighter, and easier/faster to put on and off. I see no downside to the plastic clip. Even if it does break (which is almost impossible if you just box, nobody punches that hard) you can get it replaced for a couple bucks.
