Media Curtis Blaydes claps back at fan in the Instagram comments

Not my screenshot btw. Just wanted to share it for discussion. Is it up to Curtis opponents to stop him from doing his thing with the wrestling or is he the one who should be more active?

Curtis should come at Brock Lesnar with that kids talk.

I agree with Blaydes, fuck that guy’s kids

I remember people shitting on Blaydes for completely nullifying Volkov with the takedowns, how is it his fault that most HW have trash TDD?
Blaydes is a fucking behemoth and does that stuff, how many other HWs could attempt that many takedowns let alone finish them?
Regarding the comment, not really nice but Blaydes doesn't seem like a guy who gives a fuck guy was training on his own in the beginning of his career IIRC

He needs to take Joe Rogan's advice - don't read the comments.

Fuck the guy's kids? Yeah, that's a step too far.

The original comment wasn't even that offensive compared to a lot of shit fans say online about fighters either.

Dude needs to chill. Don't throw your career away by saying something too crazy online.

People went crazy with the "Blaydes is a lay-n-pray" artist narrative after the Volkov bout IMO. Don't get me wrong, that was an atrocious performance that was worthy of criticism. Dunno if it was a bad training camp, underlying medical/personal issue, Volkov unexpectedly coming in with shit-hot get-ups, or some combination of these. Regardless, he did what he had to to win the fight in fairly straightforward -- albeit not emphatic -- fashion.

In any case, acting like every fight looks like that for him is recency bias at its best. People seem to forget that in his previous bout he boxed up JDS on the feet to a TKO. Before that, he fucked up Shamil Abdurakhimov and finished him in Rd 2 with hellbows and punches.

Prior to that was his bout with Justin Willis. Yes, it went to Decision, but he scored a 30-25 on one judge's scorecard and 30-26 on another. He was picking Willis up and slamming him at will, showing no signs of gassing like he did in the Volkov bout. He also advanced to mount and rained down punches continuously, despite Justin fouling him by grabbing his glove (which led to some Khabib-esque trash talk while Blaydes mauling him). Blaydes rocked and dropped him on the feet in Rd 2. And I don't think I need to remind anyone of the murder he committed against Reem.

When you look at the numbers, Curtis's career finish rate is actually comparable to most wrestling stylists. The man has 10 KO/TKO victories (should be 11 if not for the bullshit cannabis NC from the Milstead bout, but it is what it is) in 14 wins. Not even half of his victories have gone to the scorecards.

Would I like to see him occasionally show some more urgency? Yeah. Maybe add a layer of submission offense to his game, or occasionally trust his always-improving striking (albeit without leaving his wheelhouse and going all Bangkok Ready).

And while I'm probably one of the biggest Curtis fans on Sherdog, I really facepalm when he pulls this shit on social media. I know he thinks he's "keeping it real", but I'd rather he just ignored the haters and just did his thing unapologetically, letting his performances do the talking. He's one of those guys who just isn't great with media at all excepting certain formats and situations where he actually comes across quite well. This isn't one of them. It seems like every time he posts he's putting his foot in his mouth.

Blaydes has only had one fight make it past the 3rd round and that was against Volkov. His TD's almost killed him he was so exhausted. He's going to have to fix that or he'll never have a title reign. He might not even be able to beat Lewis.

Blaydes made Lewis look small in their staredown. Other than Stipe, Ngannou (& maybe Jones), there is no HW in the UFC causing this man problems. This guy is the real deal and might be the future champ.

There is room for improvement regarding his cardio, but at HW a single takedown takes away a lot of energy, especially with a behemoth of a man like Volkov. I think he needs to improve to be more looking for the finish on top like he did vs Overeem or add a couple of submissions to his arsenal. I think there is a certain cap to how many TD you can attempt/complete as an HW before you gas, looking for the finish is more important here.

He's definitely going to have to make some changes and adjust. What he's got going on now won't be viable enough to win consistently. He's at a point where if he wins and keeps winning it's nothing but 5 rounders.

He has come a long way tho, I have high expectations.
We will see how he looks vs Lewis, if he can put away Lewis comfortably he is a problem for everyone.

You just mentioned three dudes who can beat him. That's just not good enough to champ status, as the belt will sit at one of those dudes table.

Yeah Khabib wasn't finishing fights in the UFC for the first half of his career. Minimal GnP and sub attempts. He was way more of a position guy. Then he came back after that long lay off with some ruthless GNP and a nasty squeeze game.

Fans were hugging his nuts when he was boring too.
Is funny, guys hang on to his undefeated record as if their own <Fedor23>

We know Francis has his number. I think Blaydes is one of the worst matchups for Jones. But it could go either way. And Blaydes will give Stipe a good fight.

Let's say he can't beat these 3 now. Curtis just turned 30. Stipe is 38, he'll be retired in 2 years. Jones won't be staying at HW for a lot of fights. Probably will do only 2 or 3 matches at HW, 5 max. And Francis is 34 now and he'll be hard to beat. But I believe Blaydes can improve enough the next couple of years to get it done.

I don't understand why certain guys like GSP and Khabib get applauded while others get shit on for basically the same gameplans.

Because GSP and Khabib were masterful at the application of their craft. Blades is a damn good wrestler, but tends to not do as well when he cannot overpower guys. I don't fault him for that, but it's definitely not what GSP and Khabib were doing.
