Cung Le vs Frank Shamrock (2008)

That is awesome. You were a journalist? I did not know that. Cool. I used to create a Frank Shamrock character in my WWF wrestling games and make him HW champ lol, WCW revenge, WWF no Mercy, and another one I think
Yeah from 2007 - 2009 I did a bit of that and ringside photography

I interviewed:
Fedor
Randy Couture
Frank Shamrock
Don Frye
Bill Goldberg
Pat Miletich
Mauro Ranallo
Frank Trigg

Thats who I could remember,anyway.

Also doing this,I managed to meet ALOT of fighters haha. Was a great job (that didnt pay any money)

I watched that fight when it happened. For some reason I don’t remember details, but I remember the post fight interview and Frank’s grimacing face from the broken arm. Frank had a certain flair for the dramatic.

On another related note, I looked up the Shamrock/Baroni fight. Whenever you wanna complain about the UFC commentary team, just remember that EliteXC used to have Mauro and Bill Goldberg calling fights. Yikes!

I like Bill Goldberg,he was one of the guys I interviewed and he was fuckin awesome...but I didnt think he was a good fit to interview fighters after the fight. He was just a bit too pushy for my tastes.

I’m sure he’s a good dude. But calling fights was not his calling.

Nah prob not.

It was a weird moment tho. I was a teenager when he was doin his thing in WCW,and there I was in my late 20's interviewing the guy face to face, and he's givin me GOLD. Like he was not "too cool" at all. Probably the longest int i did besides Frank Shamrock

I cant say for sure what the reasoning was,but I do know that Seth Petruzelli said that when he fought Kimbo, they didnt tell him NOT to take him to the ground, but that hed get a big bonus for a KO. Which was an indirect way of saying "dont take it to the ground"

But Seth said he was gonna shoot for a TD anyway, but he managed to win the fight before he could even do that.

I think that was his way of being vague to avoid bigger issues, lol.

"My original plan was to throw out push kicks, have him think that I'm gonna throw them more, and then to shoot in on him, obviously. But the promoters kind of hinted to me, and they gave me the money to stand and trade with him. They didn't want me to take him down, let's just put it that way. It was worth my while to try to stand up and punch with him."

Is this from the recent Hannibal interview? If you havent, its worth a listen. He retired and opened a Karate school that is doing well.

I thought for a second you were the og poster who is friends with Heath Herring

I miss Cung Le. That was a real martial artist doing it at the highest level.
Its too bad he was never a full time guy,and learned the ground game

Wow that fight was in 2008?? Time sure does fly, those Strikeforce/elitexc days were dope. Everything from Gina Carano, the HW tournament with fedor, they actually had a great roster of fighters:
Fedor
Werdum
Bigfoot
Arlovski
rockhold
Jacare
King mo
DC
cung le
shamrock
lawler
shields
diaz
Melendez
Josh thomson
Shinya aoki
Belfort
Overeem

This was a very fun time to be an MMA fan. So many different orgs that were entertaining. Cung and Frank were two great characters from that time.

I remember reading an interview with Jerry Bohlander back in the day about the Lions Den and he said Frank was basically a really weird dude lol doesn’t surprise me really, great fighter but an odd personality for sure.

Dude left his homeless brother under a bridge and abandoned a dog at airport .

Ah fuck! I'd completely forgotten about Cung Le! He was entertaining as hell to watch. And that fight was great!
