To be honest, I'm not too sure.

I've never seen an openly gay or lesbian Indian in Punjab personally, but I do know they'd be persecuted for coming out of the closet.

The younger generations would be a little more accepting of them, but even then, I doubt it's a significant enough percentage to make someone feel safe coming out.

For example, Indian laws treat women pretty equally actually, but socially they're still often treated as 2nd class citizens.

No, and it's probably not necessary.

Who needs to discuss gay rights in China? It's been legal longer than in the US, there's more homo bars and clubs in Shanghai than West Hollywood. The CCP has been throwing down orders to revoke the ban on content of social media platforms and its official mouthpiece was openly celebrating Taiwan's legalization of marriage equality. The only reason it would do such a thing is to condition and signal (plus claim Taiwan).

I find the finger pointing and "low key" idealistic romanticization of totalitarian regimes around the world on here really amusing.
