Covington is 0-3 against elite competition in the UFC

Its like choosing DEATH
Pretty much, you're not going to win, you'll lose whatever status/ranking you have, effectively diminishing your value/pay, and pretty soon you're doing tiktok dances for hair restoration advertisements

This is prime Colby fanboy dipshit logic

There's been plenty of other elite WW's - Colby has just avoided fighting them.

Im a big Colby hater.

Answer who are the elite WWs of Usman generation besides Usman himself if Colby wasnt.
Dont come up with new generation guys who have just got in the rankings this or the last year. Colby was interim champ 5 years ago.

Go ahead. Also, grow up.

exactly at that time period, who else was there? Ben Askren? Robbie Lawler?

Whoever there was, Colby would have been at the very least a live underdog, if not favoured vs him/them.

TS is a major shertard and the guy who is supporting him the most in this thread @StonedLemur is a textbook sherbro as well.

This whole idea of him being an elite fighter because he had close fights with Kamaru is complete BS.

RDA was never an elite win for WW. The best thing RDA did was beat over the hill Lawler, I'm a big RDA fan but he was too small for WW. No hate at all towards him, but he just wasn't that great at WW. This was Colby's premier win in his career to get his interim fake belt.

Wins over washed up fighters like Masvidal, Lawler and Woodley don't mean much but all you heard from his braindead fanboys was how he "dominated" his fights even though the competition he fought was total dogshit. A lot of knowledgeable MMA fans casted doubt on his level of competition but for some reason these dipshits couldn't see it.

Dana with his whole line of "If Kamaru wasn't around Colby would be champion" pretty much proves Dana doesn't know shit about MMA nowadays.
Colby was 2-2 going Into the 5th with against Usman. With a compromised jaw. He was winning the round as well prior to the stoppage. Razor thin fight.

The second fight was 2-2 going Into the 5th. and Colby arguably won the 5th round. Usman did the most damage, landed the harder blows, so the rightful man won, but It was still a close fight. There's an argument that can be made for Colby winning that fight on points.

Anyone who can compete, on par with a prime Usman, Is an elite fighter.

You'd be a fool to suggest otherwise.

Context matters here. Not just the L.

Usman dominated everyone he ever fought. Colby was the only one who was truly on par with him. Even Usman suggested that Colby was almost his equal. If Colby was never that good, neither was Usman.

Most of you guys discrediting him now are just being ridiculous.

It was a shit performance, he's probably past his prime, but he was at the top for a reason.

Watch the fights, don't just study the W / L next to someone's record on wikipedia.

Truth hurts.
Dont cry sherbra and be thankful that I educate you for free, son

Lol I find it so funny how people have so much trouble separating a fighters personality from his skills. Colby is a douche nozzle, and by no means an elite fighter. However he WAS (past tense) VERY GOOD...better than 90-95% of the guys in his division. IMO he beats Leon if he fought him before Marty. Edwards is peaking right now and Colby is on his downside. It happens.
He might have beat Leon if he didn't sit out waiting for a gift title shot. His inactivity is what really hurt him, I think. Inactivity combined with age is the real killer in MMA.

He lost me with is last performance.
I mean, teh banter is fun & games... but it makes it all full on bullshit when you show oop & don't even try. He should've been wrestling from bell 1 to horn 5, instead he played exactly his opponents game, and his opponent even Colby'ed Colby... so I'm completely disinterested in him now.

No he wasn't, and no he isn't.

its good to be confident and positive but Colby was already overlooking Leon by talking about future bouts with Strickland/Islam. Big mistake and also not fighting often.

No doubt...completely agree

Maia was coming off of a well earned title fight when Colby beat him, I'd say that's his best win & pretty close to elite. Would've been a tko for Colby if it were 5 rounds. Maia probably wouldn't have came out for rd 4.
This is a very fair assessment.

Maybe he beats Leon a couple years ago; maybe not.
He's not (IMO) as far ahead of the pack as everyone made out; but end of the day, we really just don't know.

I believe that his incage legacy (when viewed honestly) will leave us with a lot of questions due to his last 5 matchups, and his long absences.
Maybe outside of the current and former champ, he's an absolute destroyer who only lost out on a title due to being on the beginning of the downside of his career.
Maybe he just matched up well (didn't get blown out of the water) with the 3 most recent WW champs.

We may only ever be able to guess.

Have I got this right?
Colby didn't do okay in UFC?

his resume looks pretty bad in retrospect

- loses 3 title fights to usman and leon
- beats former LWs in RDA and and Masvidal
- beats washed Woodley, Maia, and Lawler. They all retired not long after those fights.
- 2-3 in his last 5.

His claim to fame will always be that he got 'close' to beating Usman
