This whole idea of him being an elite fighter because he had close fights with Kamaru is complete BS.

RDA was never an elite win for WW. The best thing RDA did was beat over the hill Lawler, I'm a big RDA fan but he was too small for WW. No hate at all towards him, but he just wasn't that great at WW. This was Colby's premier win in his career to get his interim fake belt.

Wins over washed up fighters like Masvidal, Lawler and Woodley don't mean much but all you heard from his braindead fanboys was how he "dominated" his fights even though the competition he fought was total dogshit. A lot of knowledgeable MMA fans casted doubt on his level of competition but for some reason these dipshits couldn't see it.

Dana with his whole line of "If Kamaru wasn't around Colby would be champion" pretty much proves Dana doesn't know shit about MMA nowadays.

I mean his competitiveness in the two Usman fights is why people hold his skill in high regard. He lost but he looked good enough that people still could believe he could be champ with the right oppurtunities. I think that window is closed now though.

Truth is Usman was just a good matchup for him. Someone else who was sloppy and wreckless on the feet that he could potentially win 3 rounds over.

He fought a sharpshooter striker who's not sloppy or wreckless in the least bit and could defend takedowns and he looked completely clueless.

I think this is all it really was. I don't even think he looked good per se, but he was durable enough in the 2nd fight to make it appear he was still in the fight despite clearly losing the first 3 rounds. Sometimes that's all you have to do to leave an impression in the minds of the fans, especially when a lot of fans care less about the fights than they do the pro wrestling antics.

The simple fact is despite not being particularly impressive, his wiki record looked good enough on paper, and his schtick appealed to enough (and Dana personally) that kept him in the mix as a 'big name'.

Well if the champ (at that time) was a good matchup for him, then that says something. That was then though,I dont see him ever beating Leon.

Maia was coming off of a well earned title fight when Colby beat him, I'd say that's his best win & pretty close to elite. Would've been a tko for Colby if it were 5 rounds. Maia probably wouldn't have came out for rd 4.

Yeah and Hendricks was a good matchup for GSP. Still didn't mean he beat every other WW contender by default. And he was a hell of a lot better than Colby if you ask me.

Lol I find it so funny how people have so much trouble separating a fighters personality from his skills. Colby is a douche nozzle, and by no means an elite fighter. However he WAS (past tense) VERY GOOD...better than 90-95% of the guys in his division. IMO he beats Leon if he fought him before Marty. Edwards is peaking right now and Colby is on his downside. It happens.

Colby has only lost to champions. The last fight wasn't some high output demolishing blowout that everyone wants to think it was. Leon only landed 13 more significant strikes, over the course of five rounds. Losing to prime Kamaru and prime Leon is nothing to retire over. Kamaru pretty much beat Kamzhat IMO. If Colby starts losing to Matt Brown types, then it's over. But I dont think we're done hearing about Colby just yet. With the right matchups, Colby can be right back in it, much to the dismay of everyone, lol.

Then maybe he should fight some other elite fighters and prove it.

My bet is if that he fights a Shavkat or Sean Brady he loses to both of them. Colby's been so overrated over the years it's not even funny.

I wasnt saying Colby would do that either. Just saying that being a good matchup for the champ is how you can become a champ, and that is a great accomplishment in of itself, and what people thought Colby could do.

Well hes definitley ducking Shavkat. Hes not the only one, with good reason lol

I agree, but ultimately that comes down to the UFC and the direction they are trying to go. Some fighters get favorable match ups i.e. Colby, Poatan. And others are fed to the wolves. I think they're going to let some time pass, do some PR, and a win over Wonderboy, Colby is theoretically right back in it. UFC is not a merit based org, it is entertainment, and Colbys antics draws in viewers. It's not about how much you can be liked, being hated is big too.
