Country, Bluegrass, Hillbillie, Folk

You got it my friend.

Probably my fav duo regadless of genre

First recorded in 1927, same year The Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers were first heard on records.

As we know country is white man blues.

You have great taste. Love the Columbia catalog. Used to have this on a comp with Sam Mcgee back in the 90s.

The great George Jones once said Merle Haggard had the absolute
best country voice he could imagine. High praise.

The wife and I like to hit Bakersfield/Oildale every six months or so. Like to rummage all those thrift shops. Coming from the north it's best to come in going thru Oildale which is really where Merle Haggard is from. In Oildale is a little cafe called the Country Kitchen, that is where we'd have breakfast (great Denver Omeletes) both of us could eat our fill and some coffee for less than 25 bucks.

Anyway.....

Pictures of Hag all over the place, some with the original owner (he was old then so...) also a few pictures of a young Buck Owens and Dwight Yokum who are from Bakersfield.
Thank you sir, I have some Sam Mcgee thinking he has a brother.

My dad had all this cats records I grew up singing this stuff.

Damn, very close to mine. I got Dylan, Townes, Hank, Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave. Also, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Tom Waits, and Neil Young are up there for me.

Also a big fan of all of those.

McDowell was late coming to the show, he was in his 50's before he was recorded. Yep.....???

While here.....

I can't watch this because it's blocked in my country. :(

Yeah McDowell and a lot of the the older bluesmen kinda lived in obscurity until Alan Lomax and the folk revival found them.

I've heard of Stapleton but I'll be honest I have a bias and don't really pay attention to much country produced past the 1960s for some reason. You like all the good shit so I'm definitely gonna give him a try now and try and stop being a curmudgeon :)
