International Coronavirus, v4: South Korea in Red Alert as number of infected quadrupled in 4 days

1) It's not any Church that you know, it's a cult with a "living Korean Jesus". Don't automatically assume what they do in their service is anything similar to what you see each Sunday at your church. (For example: many Protestant and Catholic churches in the U.S temporarily stopped the tradition of holding and shaking hands during mass to minimize physical contacts since the beginning of the outbreak). Who the hell knows what they are doing in that cult?

2) Half of those who tested positive on the Diamond Princess are completely asymptomatic. That doesn't mean it "spreads slowly" on the ship, not even close. It means many people isolated in their cabins on the ship might be infected a long time ago already, and only finds out days later when they are finally tested.

3) If you STILL believe China's numbers and continue referencing it as if it actually means something, this thread isn't for you. Those cooked stats means absolutely nothing to anyone not named Tedros. One could randomly pick some numbers out of a bingo bag and it would have the same believability and scientific quality as the official Chinese reports.

Overall, you still seems very strangely confused with all the basics after 3 iterations of this News & Discussion thread, eventhough you have access to the same latest information as we all do, so I must ask you this: are you able to read/comprehend on the same level as everyone else here? o_O

If that's an issue, I can keep an eye out for articles with simpler wordings that's easier to understand when I do my usual news updates. :)

Basic info on coronavirus transmission, published over a week ago, available to everyone who has access to the internet, thoroughly discussed over the last 3 threads, and also is in the OP:

The principal mode of transmission is still thought to be respiratory droplets, which may travel up to six feet from someone who is sneezing or coughing. The new coronavirus isn’t believed to be an airborne virus, like measles or smallpox, that can circulate through the air. “If you have an infected person in the front of the plane, for instance, and you’re in the back of the plane, your risk is close to zero simply because the area of exposure is thought to be roughly six feet from the infected person,” said Chiu.

Close contact with an infectious person, such as shaking hands, or touching a doorknob, tabletop or other surfaces touched by an infectious person, and then touching your nose, eyes, or mouth can also transmit the virus.

Chiu stresses that we do not yet have definitive data on how long the new coronavirus can survive on surfaces, but based on data from other coronaviruses such as SARS, it may be for up to two days at room temperatures.

New reports raised the possibility that the virus may be spread by fecal contamination of the environment, such as through leaky sewage pipes. Infections across multiple floors of a building due to contaminated bathroom pipes was previously demonstrated for SARS coronavirus.

Yeah, I don't buy that at all.
It seems too contagious to be carried by droplets in a six feet radius. Especially since wr got people spreading the infection without symptoms (aka no coughs, no droplets).

Cult of the living Korean Jesus?

More info on the Korean cult where Super Spreader #31 infected so many people.

She came in close contact with a total of 1001 other cult members in the last two weeks, hundreds of whom are now showing symptoms as of today.

Coronavirus ‘super spreader’ at South Korean church cult sparks infection fears in Daegu city

At the centre of the church cluster is a 61-year-old woman, a follower of the Shincheonji Church of Jesus in Daegu, who was earlier diagnosed as the country’s 31st patient. The cluster has been described as a “super-spreading event” by the Korea Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC).

In a press release on Wednesday, the KCDC pointed to a number of cases attending the “same Korean cult” as the 31st patient.

The church has closed all its facilities across the country, urging its followers to attend online prayer sessions instead. It also promised to cooperate closely with health authorities.

But Pastor Shin Hyun-uk, an anti-cult campaigner, is concerned there might be many more cases linked to the Shincheonji church, citing its aggressive public evangelical campaigns and its “study rooms” where potential believers are clandestinely educated.

“Their so-called ‘harvesters’ go to other Christian churches, take part in prayer sessions there and engage in other activities in order to woo away ordinary believers,” he told the South China Morning Post.

“I doubt whether the church would come clean about the movements of its believers who were with the 31st patient and cooperate with authorities in tracing contacts for fear that it would reveal their secret evangelistic activities. This is really a worrisome situation.”

A rare interview with a Shincheonji follower in local media has cast light on how the 31st patient came dangerously close to other followers when she attended prayer sessions over the past two Sundays.
Married women gather on the fourth floor of the Daegu branch’s eight-storey building, while unmarried women and men congregate on the eighth floor and married men assemble on the seventh.

During these sessions, congregants crowd into halls where they sit so close as to literally “rub their shoulders”, chant and praise God “at the top of their voice” for half an hour and listen to a sermon for about an hour.

“We were told to remove face masks while attending prayer sessions,” the unnamed follower told newspaper Nocut News. After a session, followers form many small groups to exchange pleasantries, while married women usually throw potluck parties.

According to a statement from Shincheonji, church officials had been advising followers since late January to stay at home if they had recently travelled overseas or were experiencing even mild cold-like symptoms.

But the 31st patient assumed she was having a common cold and kept coming to her Daegu church because she didn’t travel overseas, church officials said. “We think it’s deeply regrettable … for causing concerns to the local community,” the statement said.

There are 14 million Christians in South Korea, with an estimated 2 million of these being involved in fringe churches.

Established in 1984, the Shincheonji church has 200,000 followers across the country, including some 13,000 in Daegu. According to anti-cult campaigner Shin, it has some 20,000 followers in about 30 other territories including Japan, China, Hong Kong and countries in Southeast Asia.

“They are in general seen as a dangerous, vile cult that has been growing fast by abusing the belief in the last judgment,” he said, referring to some denominations’ belief in the second coming of Christ.

“Many Christian churches [in South Korea] put up warnings on their doors against Shincheonji followers entering their facilities.”

Shincheonji claims its founder, Lee Man-hee, 88 has donned the mantle of Jesus Christ and will take 144,000 people with him to heaven on the day of judgment.

Park Hyung-tak, head of the Korea Christian Heresy Research Institute, said the outbreak was a blow to Shincheonji, which describes its followers as “chosen people favoured by God”. “Most believers accept this large cluster of cases occurring at the church as a test of their belief,” he said.

Daegu mayor Kwon Young-jin on Thursday said another 90 people among some 1,000 followers who attended prayer sessions with the 31st patient were complaining of suspected symptoms.

“We’ve been tracing all the 1,001 people who took part in prayer sessions together,” he told journalists, adding that the 90 people were told to quarantine themselves at their residences.

That's really not a scientific basis to conclude that it is now airborne, at all.

Coughing is the primary, but not the only, way to spread your coronavirus-laden bodily fluids, and asymptomatic people can spread it in many other ways, including direct or secondary contact with infected surfaces. Ways that are listed in the post that you quoted but failed to read, or read but failed to comprehend. Ways that can be minimized if everyone improves their personal hygiene, including washing your hands and refrain from touching your face.

Anyhow, you don't have to buy anything, and we have nothing to sell here. Those are just basic proven scientific facts about the coronavirus family as a whole that is common knowledge, and as of today there is no evidence for your personal belief that this particular strain (SARS-CoV-2) has mutated and gain the ability to spreads through the air that we breathe (like measles).

If it is airborne, there isn't a single crowded city in China, Korea, or Japan that isn't completely wrecked by now, since lock-downs and quarantines are useless against the air you share with millions other people. The fact that proper containment still holds and the world didn't end after two months is the biggest proof that it's just a good old coronavirus that spreads through traditional coronavirus ways.

My brother lives in nanjing. Said things seem to be calming down. Whatever that means.

The flu isn't that contagious. Given that I haven't had the flu in my entire llife and have lived in cities for most of my life...I mean dafuq is that?

Something seems off about these infection numbers.

For example, 500 people can get infected by going to church with a carrier.

But people can be trapped for weeks on a ship and the infection moves much more slowly.

Or China, where they live nuts to butts, still only has 80,000 cases.

not ever getting sick is not always a good thing.

Can it spread through gasses? Say someone has the virus and farts at the top of an escalator in the mall, does everyone who gets to the top get the virus?

What will they do with the ship once everyone leaves it, burn it down?

I don't think decontamination is gonna be a problem once you have humans out of there.

Coronavirus Cruise Ship to Set Sail Again in April, After Thorough Cleaning
Princess Cruises says 116,000-ton pleasure vessel will be ready ahead of Japan’s Golden Week holidays

TOKYO—The $500 million cruise liner that became an incubator for the novel coronavirus will resume service again soon with its next group of holidaymakers, according to its operator, though only after a thorough cleaning.

"The expectation is that the ship would be fully sanitized and then taken into dry dock for a period of time," said Negin Kamali, public-relations director for Princess Cruises. She said the 116,000-ton cruise liner will stay in Japan, where it was constructed. It remains unclear what the cleaning process looks like for a ship that has been home to ill passengers.

This virus will not spread but disappear like Sars. What sucks is those deaths. At least we may not have war now for some years.

I don't really get your deal. Are you sincerely suggesting that the coronavirus doesn't exist? All of this is made up? A hoax? To what end?
I don't think he is saying that coronavirus does not exist. He is just trolling a little bit.

Some of us still haven't bought that this is going to be as massive as others think, and instead living worried 24/7 we continue with our lives and wait to see what happens. Specially the ones who living overseas from Asia.
What else we can do? Bought a few masks? Stock some food? Take the vaccine as soon as is developed? After that there is not much we can do.
Being 24 hours searching for every negative piece of information about the virus and posting in a forum... can't think on much worse things for one's mental health. I guess someone has to do it tho.

At the end of the day we don't really know what happens in China. The truth is something in between the cooked numbers of the CCP and the crazy amounts of fake news spread all over the internet.
Besides that and the clusterfuck cruise in Japan, whenever the virus has landed in a country that is not a complete shithole, things have been pretty well. And this shit has been around for like 2 months already. Chances are that they will find a vaccine before things get really really bad for us in the west.

@good-faith poster , come on bro.. there are people that can handle a little trolling and others like TS that just can't. He feels important for "hosting" a thread in a karate forum. Don't be that guy that ruins it for him.

A 29-year-old doctor in China, who delayed his wedding to work on the front line, has passed away after getting infected with the Covid-19.

I guess with the last doctor that was 51, and now this one at age 29, we can assume that the idea if you are young and healthy you are safe is not correct.

Isn't this Airbourne? Why are they telling us to wash our hands?

Quite frankly, I don't think they totally know how Covid-19 functions. They had one case where the virus travelled up 10 floors in a building to contaminate someone. Confusing the situation even more is that they can't even figure out what the real incubation period is. They have it set at 14 but some reports are up to 24 days. I understand doctors are in close contact with patients but if doctors are becoming infected that's not a good sign.

As long as you don't shart all over the place.

Scientists already analyzed stool samples from the infected patients and learned that it's full of live virus.

That means dirty bastards who don't wash their hands with soap after using the bathroom and then contaminate every doorknobs around them could be one of the reasons why it spreads so fast in China, as well as that cruise ship where sick crew members continue to prep the food and roams free until they shows symptoms.

This would also means one leaky sewage pipe could contaminate multiple floors of a building, just like SARS.

Fecal Transmission May Be Behind Coronavirus’s Rapid Spread
By Jason Gale | February 19, 2020

The novel coronavirus is shed in the feces of infected people, which may help explain why it’s spread so fast, according to Chinese researchers.

The finding of live virus particles in stool specimens indicates a fecal-oral route for coronavirus, which may be why it’s caused outbreaks on cruise ships with an intensity often seen with gastro-causing norovirus, which also spreads along that pathway. More than 600 Covid-19 infections were confirmed among passengers and crew aboard the Diamond Princess, the ship quarantined for two weeks in Yokohama, Japan.

“This virus has many routes of transmission, which can partially explain” its rapid spread, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention said in a report Saturday.

The agency recommends strengthening sanitation and hygiene measures to prevent fecal-oral transmission in epidemic areas. These include drinking boiled water, avoiding eating raw food, implementing separate meal systems, frequent hand-washing, disinfecting toilets, and preventing water and food contamination from patients’ stool.

“The virus can also be transmitted through the potential fecal-oral route,” the Chinese CDC said. “This means that stool samples may contaminate hands, food, water” and cause infection when the microbes enter the mouth or eyes, or are inhaled, they said.

The coronaviruses that cause Covid-19 and SARS, or severe acute respiratory syndrome, bind to the same distinctly shaped protein receptors in the body that are expressed in the lungs and intestines, making these organs the primary targets for both viruses, said Fang Li, an associate professor of veterinary and biomedical sciences at the University of Minnesota, last month.

Squat latrines, common in China, lacking covers and hands that aren’t washed thoroughly with soap and water after visiting the bathroom, could be a source of virus transmission, said Nicholls, who was part of the research team that isolated and characterized the SARS virus.

DUBAI (Reuters) - The coronavirus has spread to several Iranian cities, a health ministry official said on Friday, according to the official IRNA news agency.

Iran confirmed 13 new coronavirus cases on Friday, two of whom have died.

“Based on existing reports, the spread of coronavirus started in Qom and with attention to people’s travels has now reached several cities in the country including Tehran, Babol, Arak, Isfahan, Rasht and other cities and it’s possible that it exists in all cities in Iran,” health ministry official Minou Mohrez said.
