Some rumors going around on Blind about an Austin IBM employee coming down with COVID-19. Not sure how much stock I put into it, but with it being in Austin I’m keeping an eye on it. Blind is a site where you have to log into it via your work email so the only credibility is that it’s posted by an Austin IBM employee.

Everyone in the world working on a vaccine. The Massachusetts company based in Norwood Moderna may have the best chance for treatment globally. It's affordable 'not based on a AIDS treatment' it doesn't need a type specific. They already sent out 100 samples to NIH for testing.

A family member who I have been in contact with is a PhD in immunology with a focus on virology told me about the company. She said it could be used to fight future more difficult strains of viruses.

Well the US and Canada have huge swaths of public land and this virus isnt going to create people that have the gear, knowledge, and temperament to do extended wilderness trips. Simply the ones that do will probably be more inclined to say fuck it and dip out instead of being semi-locked down in a city
 
Italy is not taking this seriously, they don"t even respect the WHO recommendations. They don"t have capsules or most of the patients were transported without capsule.

One Romanian was seeking for help in Italy, reached a doctor in Udine, he was treated for flu (I bet they don"t even have kits, at least to cover some hundreds or thousands because it"s a big country). Even though Italy was in quarantine. Can you believe that? He drove to Romania, reached a hospital in a smaller town, and was diagnosed with coronavirus.

All the 3 confirmed Romanians were infected in Italy.

In terms of strict mathematics it should get worse more quickly. The more people are infected, the more people will get infected.

It does not matter they get infected. Italy should have thousands of flu cases every year, plus dozens of thousands of pneumonia normally.

Important is to stop the epidemic. Hundreds or even thousands of cases in Italy wouldn"t be a problem. Korea can also stop the epidemic.

The problem is that the summer is not really near and as many you have, you will certainly have more deaths.

One thing I"ve notice, is that in Europe the virus doesn"t look be as aggressive as in China. Or maybe in China many people in that area were very simple and didn"t go to the doctor, not even after the media was speaking.

Getting ready and keeping additional food and supplies make sense. If nothing happens then no harm done, as this money was not wasted since you can cycle that stuff through.

Since I live in an area with an annual hurricane season, we always keep a few weeks worth of non-perishable goods and water on hand in case we get damage and are unable to evacuate. We rotate it out once hurricane season is over, but in the last few weeks I've added to it as a precaution to make sure we could go a month. That's not including the stuff in the fridge and freezer.

Some things go a long way as emergency food supply. Pasta, rice, beans and oatmeal keep for a very long time and don't require much storage room. Canned tuna, ham, and other canned meats as protein, cans of veggies, a few boxes of crackers and 2 jars of peanut butter. Plenty of liquids.

If you have a propane or charcoal grill make sure you have spare fuel for those. Also the small cans of fuel that they use to keep food warm in buffets (chafing dish fuel). You just pop the lid, light it up and you can use it as a small stove if the power is out. Also keep your gas tank full. There's nothing appealing about waiting in line for hours for gas when everyone decides to fill up.

I was thinking about doing this but at the beach in a camping van for the whole 4 5 month of summer. I can work from anywhere.
 
It does not make sense, just if you are following TV! But overall I"m happy if they buy food on long term, something you need, if not you can donate the rest to the poors. The good thing is that they will not be in agglomeration for a while. So less cases. But trust me they didn"t think this way, they think WW2 is coming or end of the world!

I also bought some packs, but only what I usually need. And water. Nothing much. They are desperate.

I'm thinking most of the world is going to treat this as an extreme version of the flu... for better or worse

or much worse

Western Countries don't have the backbone to enforce the draconian quarantines like China is doing
