Cop: "We only kill black people"

Just wanted to ask (since I'm not a black guy), you viewing this in context, knowing he's likely joking, does it make you nervous or can you laugh it off as a joke?

I can't afford to not err on the side of caution. I'd love to see my son graduate from college.

If you have a yard, you better be inviting all of your Sherbros and myself over for a fu*king BBQ!!

I've said this before and I'll say it again...

The BBQ is always ready, I've got a poker table in the basement, but Bring Your Own Beer! :)

You're a police officer not an edgy comedian. Do your job properly by conducting yourself in a professional manner and you won't get fired.

Imagine a catholic preist made a joke about diddling little kids, would you people think he should keep his job?

"don't you worry, you're a grown adult not a kid. I won't molest you"

A pertinent part of this cops story is he's been at this for 28 years.

Both when he told the joke, and when it came time to discuss discipline, his attitude was most likely "fuck it".

So while the headline will read "fired" , this was probably partly the officers decision.

Wouldn't he lose his pension though? Probably not a smart move.

I dont think he was even joking. But even if he was joking he deserve to be fired for being so unprofessional. But a lot of cops are racist and do get pleasure of abusing black people....thats a fact

No, they clearly can't, or people like you will seek to attribute sincere maliciousness to a joke-- as Voodoo did in his very OP. Humor offends. Ultimately, someone, somewhere will always find something humorous offensive when others cannot fathom how injury could be taken. It's not even intended to be a racist joke as the true spirit is self-deprecating, but even if it were, which would still be unacceptable, one should not overlook that he wasn't telling this joke to a black person. That was the error in his judgment. He thought this context would somehow matter, but he forgot that is a cop, and people resent authority figures telling risky jokes.

What's the implication? If a joke that a cop might tell could be construed as offensive to anyone, anywhere, not even specifically the person he is speaking to, then that joke is off-limits. That amounts to the deprivation of humor.

Bad judgment isn't a crime. It's a matter of competency, and cops aren't the only ones who can get fired for it, but they sure as hell aren't given the same leash as the rest of us.

If a Priest told you:

"Don't worry, you can leave your little girl with me, we Priests only rape little boys"

How would you react? These are situations where the difference in power is so great and the stakes are so high that a joke like that will be taken menacingly.

BTW, this thread is why cops don't have senses of humor. They're not permitted them. So don't bitch about that in the future. Remember the reason.

I think this is the only post of yours I've ever hit the like button on.

LOL..

thanks ...but like I mentioned in the other thread with Marlo...

I quit gambling.

but the BBQ, I'm down!

Is this what they call outrage porn?

Not going to lie, I laughed, but it was a dumb for him to say to a stranger.

Dude should not have lost his job, maybe two weeks without pay, with some sensitivity training.
That would be enough but in todays environment, he was toast once the news got a hold of it.

He was clearly joking. Poor taste, and unprofessional, but let's not pretend for a second the guy was being serious.
How can you make that assertion? No sane person would or should ever utter that sentence. It is clear he is racist.

I can sympathize with the cop, because that sounds like something I would say. LOL at everyone pretending that it wasn't funny as fuck!

This guy was clearly trying to calm down a frightened women. He could have been aggressive and macho to get compliance. Instead he tried to be a nice guy. This is how he gets treated. This is a lesson to every cop out there that next time they want compliance they should yell and scream because at least that won't get them fired and compassion will.
