Cop: "We only kill black people"

Police will look for a reason to screw you. I'm not saying be an ass hole. I'm not saying be autistic and start fucking screeching about your rights. I'm not sure what it is about human beings that need every god damn detail spelled out like this. Like yea, you also shouldn't urinate yourself and throw feces at an officer either. Do I need to say that too?

Just say as little as possible and keep things moving along to get out of the situation as quickly as possible.

It's just not the same scenario every time though. I'm 38 years old, white, with glasses, a new car and live in a nice suburb of Chicago. When an officer approaches me I have my hands on the wheel and am extremely respectful. The police officer does not come charging me like a bat out of hell, they simply walk up and ask me for my credentials. It's almost a peer to peer engagement.

Now I don't know how to fix it and I know that some stops carry more risk than others but I think everyone pulled over for a simple traffic violation should be afforded the same respect I get. If an officer is afraid or nervous than stand behind your door (gun out) and politely and respectfully order the driver/passenger out of the car with their hands up and once the officer feels safe he/she can calmly explain why what just happened/happened. It seems like the police escalate MANY of these instances and that is why we have problems more often than not.

No, they clearly can't, or people like you will seek to attribute sincere maliciousness to a joke-- as Voodoo did in his very OP. Humor offends. Ultimately, someone, somewhere will always find something humorous offensive when others cannot fathom how injury could be taken. It's not even intended to be a racist joke as the true spirit is self-deprecating, but even if it were, which would still be unacceptable, one should not overlook that he wasn't telling this joke to a black person. That was the error in his judgment. He thought this context would somehow matter, but he forgot that is a cop, and people resent authority figures telling risky jokes.

What's the implication? If a joke that a cop might tell could be construed as offensive to anyone, anywhere, not even specifically the person he is speaking to, then that joke is off-limits. That amounts to the deprivation of humor.

Bad judgment isn't a crime. It's a matter of competency, and cops aren't the only ones who can get fired for it, but they sure as hell aren't given the same leash as the rest of us.
Completely disagree. Their leash is far too long in the US. Police get away with all kinds of ridiculous shit. It's much easier to get fired from most jobs than a job as a police officer from what I've seen.

I think police are subject to the same things. They go on their own life experience and I am someone who has lived in urban areas and most of the hoodlums selling drugs on the streets are minorities. Police also realize this. So if they see a minority dressed a certain way then their prejudice will kick in and they will act more aggressive and they might go into fight mode if they misjudge an action. If I am in my old neighborhood if I walk up to a black guy standing on a corner and say something rude to him, I am most likely getting punched in the face. Now a white person, tbh, I doubt they would get physical. Maybe minorities act more aggressive because they feel oppressed and police treat them more harshly because they are known to act more aggressive. Sounds like a problem that just feeds itself. I just am basing this off my own life experience.

I completely agree with you, it's a vicious cycle right now and it's only getting worse. I have no idea what the solution will be but I think it would start by understanding what the other side is going through instead of dismissing their experiences because they are different. At least you have done that!

Pertaining to humor? Perhaps you'll need to enlighten me with an example.

We can all agree it was meant as a joke but let's not overextend that to mean it was appropriate.

jokes are never appropriate

it is also much easier not to get killed at work if you are not a cop

Yeah, I'd agree that there is a fucked up set of standards being enforced, in that a cop who makes a grave mistake that costs someone their life, or true pain and suffering, gets the benefit of the doubt a lot of the time, and a guy who makes a joke gets immediately shit canned.

I still think he deserved it, but the severity of punishment on a case by case basis is not very consistent.

If this was some hidden camera job, and they caught him making this joke off duty at a bar or something, I wouldn't think much of it. He was on duty though, and it's just unacceptable. You can get fired for insensitive jokes at any job if you offend anyone, and HR gets wind of it. Let alone a Police Officer joking around with a civilian, about cops killing black people.

Professional conduct is expected of most of us at our jobs. People in authority roles are no different. He fucked up, and it cost him. Shit happens.

Good points. I do see why he was fired, and I wouldn't go to the mat for him, but I personally wouldn't fire him unless I saw a pattern in his behaviour and thought this "joke" was indicative of a general racist attitude or a carefree attitude towards killing people.

The problem starts with the culture. Maybe I am crazy now but I would blame rap music. The music glorifies hood life, fucking hoes, taking money (not making money rather taking money). In these lower class urban areas, most kids don't have a dad or their mom is on drugs and/or hooking. There dad might have kids from 3-4 different women and he pays for nothing. These kids are out on the street imitating what they say to feel accepted. The culture in these urban areas is so toxic, it promotes being a degenerate. Kids grow up wanting to be degenerates.

So this lady who was stopped was really nervous when the cops approached and he reassured her that they only kill black people so she has nothing to worry about. LOL this genius forgot that his dash cam was on and he was being recorded and now he's getting fired.

So I know that the BLM movement has morphed into a big clusterfuck but this attitude that the cop is showing is what the original movement was based on. White privilege is innocuous at times but not in the case of police with guns. If I was black I'd be scared shitless of the cops.

And people on Sherdog wonder why I tend to not leave my yard...

Just wanted to ask (since I'm not a black guy), you viewing this in context, knowing he's likely joking, does it make you nervous or can you laugh it off as a joke?

this is horrible advice. What are you trying to prove by not cooperating with the police? You think you are Rosa Parks LOL?

Lol you idiot. When you are being interrogated by a police agent, the last thing you want to do is talk to them. They even tell you your rights that anything you say CAN and WILL be used against you in the court of law. They want evidence so they can get you convicted in court. You don't talk to them, you get a lawyer and say nothing. Retard

You are the idiot actually. You are the type of person that would get sent to jail when the cop was going to let you off with a warning. All because you want to act like some tough guy. You watched maybe too much Sopranos. "Don't say nuffin Tony!" LOL Man you are so tough and such a badass you amaze me.

He was clearly joking. Poor taste, and unprofessional, but let's not pretend for a second the guy was being serious.

I was picturing Ralph Machio in My Cousin Vinny while watching this. Remember? He says "I shot the clerk," as a question, but it was taken as a confession.

Oh. Just a dandy.

I have beaten many charges because I didn't talk to police during interrogation and got a lawyer instead while I have known people who talked to police during interrogation and got 4 years in prison. You are a little turd who has obviously never had any experience with these kinds of things while I have.. and to think I'm an idiot for getting a lawyer for being a suspect for something and wanted to beat my charges, is pretty unbelievable. Everyone with half a brain knows to get a lawyer if they are actually suspected of committing a crime rather than just spread your asshole for police who want to gather charges against you.

I'm not talking about not doing anything wrong and just getting pulled over, if it's about that then yeah you be friendly. But you obviously don't understand what I'm trying to say. Dumb ass

Oh you have beaten many charges huh? So how are you ending up in court so much? I bet you the cops are actually onto something with you. Next time I hope you fuck up and get thrown in jail. It is probably where you belong if you get charged so much.

Oh you beat your traffic tickets through technicality. Try to drive better and stop getting pulled over dumbass.

Lol...I'm not even going to bother responding to your brainless ass. You sound like a little boy.
