Crime Consumer prices show significant jump in January

Nobody in Europe had Trump host beauty pageants in their country except for Russia.
I would not be surprised if that sexual deviant. Trump was not filmed doing some heinous shit. Russia has been known to put cameras in hotel rooms, and we know Trump has no impulse control.
Probably grabbed the wrong pussy(s)

Business react quite fast to tariffs, especially the further up the supply chain they are. Just because those products haven't hit shelves yet doesn't mean it isn't happening yet. Keep in mind January/February production for a lot of electronics is what's going into stores for their end of Q1 resets.
Ok... in about a week you're saying it all went to hell... cheers man. Again he can't hide and whatever he does will eventually be seen. But you guys are silly now

None of them were in effect... it only concerns certain items like steel and aluminum... not eggs... the reaction from Trump will be what it is and it can't be hidden. But to say that within 10 days it all went to shit is silliness.
I think you didn't read the second part of my post or are dishonestly ignoring it.

This thread isn't even about the price of eggs, but all consumer prices, including the consumer goods produced with steel and aluminum.

Chicken man first and only question whenever nutman arrives...

Little known fact is the circumference of a chicken's throat is the same size as the circumference of their butthole. Therefore, a chicken can not eat anything too big to dump out.
All my relatives had chickens. Out of all the animals on my Pop Pops farm chickens were the fucking dumbest. Duck eggs are tastier.

I didn't say in a week everything went to hell. But it's silly to pretend that companies didn't started pricing in tariffs as soon as they were announced. Products aren't made over night, let alone shipping them (China to US is about a 6-8 week voyage).

Companies have been mapping out their options for different tariff scenarios for months and years now. It's just a matter of picking from that list for most of them now.

Wait till chicken, beef, pork and milk go up.

China though is different than US and Mexico. Biden kept majority of Trumps original tariffs additionally adding $18B as well 100% on electric vehicles, 50% on solar cells and 25% on electrical vehicle batteries, critical minerals, steel, aluminum, face masks and ship-to-shore cranes beginning in Sept of 2024. Canada and Mexico are much more narrowed but Biden did the same thing. We are fighing a war with China on this stuff.

Yeah, and then he increased tariffs even more. And he's also threatening TSMC, which is insane. Right now, companies are starting price negotiations with TSMC for end of year releases and next year.

Once again, not every price increase is related to tariffs, but it's impossible to deny that Trump adding new tariffs and proposing even more shook up the market at the end of January. The only questions is how much further price increases are, contingent on what else he proposes.

Posted in the OP: Egg prices up 267% since October. I see what you say about immediate but it isnt that immediate. Again, TS is trolling a bit. But new Tariffs just went into affect in Sept of 24. I belive that's more likely affecting Jan. Trump may affect them more than that. Will see.

But if they were just increased since end of Sept.. it makes sense that they are affecting end of the year and january. I'm not saying trump is right btw... but to say 10 days and everything explodes is not it. And he just signed the new tariffs on Feb 1.

Yes, and many companies immediately priced in additional costs from those tariffs. I'm not sure why you don't grasp that part.

Most retailers run extremely lean on inventory, same with wholesalers. It'd not like Walmart is sitting on months of stock, they pretty much have to constantly reorder.

He signed the order for tariffs AFTER Jan.... we are talking the Jan report. Not Feb. Anyway, I'm cooking and getting ready to give the boys a bath. I'm not sure maybe I'm missing something but will chat later.

That's just the OP, who is trolling. The article itself is about the overall CPI, not just eggs.

Tariffs are immediate, the price increase is immediate. If anything, as I also pointed out, purchasing decisions have changed since Trump won the election because of the tariff threat. We will see continue increases in February figures as they come out, we won't have to wait months. We do know that the downward trend of the CPI has been trending upward again since the election, and we also know it's the highest it's been since June.

Let's say you own a business that imports a commodity under imminent threat of tariff. What do you do?

You buy as much as you can before tariffs are in place, which lowers supply, which increases prices for everyone else doing the same thing. The threat of tariffs will increase prices before they even go into place. That's not even getting into the arbitrary increase in price when the tariffs actually are in place, which they are now.

Why would businesses wait until Feb 1 to increase prices if they know they'll have to pay more by then? Again, products don't spring forth into existence on store shelves at the snap of someone's fingers.

To put it crudely, a business has every incentive to raise prices before the tariffs officially kick in. If people are going to change their purchase habits, it will be toward buying stuff before prices go up. Conversely, that means higher demand that can sustain higher prices.

Old Fat Trump told me day 1 prices and inflation will be going down. Are you saying Trump lied to me.

For the MAGA-doggers who have never taken an economic class, tariffs will only make prices go even higher. IT is going to be a shit show. There is a reason all the billionaires are bailing out of the stock market and loading up on cash. Trump is giving them COVID 2.0 chance to further enrich themselves.

Southwest Airlines CEO big Trump supporter Airlines just announced it's slashing global workforce. It gets better raising fuel costs and issues due to Tariffs causing long term issues with travel but yeah Biden's fault.

He even announced them on Feb. 1. Just cant put that on him bud. Again, I'm not saying it isnt going to get worse but tracking it... Jan doesnt fit. Businesses dont just want to fluctuate up and down if he is just talking rhetoric. And again, Biden kept most and imposed new ones at the end of Sept. Do you not agree that this had an impact? Anyway, will see.
