Conor's layoff

Duffy??? I don't care what weight he fights at, 145-170, but he has pigeon holed himself into a corner of fighting top ranked guys. Duffy just lost, Connor needs to fight against a top ranked fighter, and he needs to win, otherwise his million dollar paydays are over. The position that he has put himself in, and the money he has made and is going to make off his next fight, he doesn't get the luxury of a warm up fight.

My thing is, if he can fight Siver, there's no reason not to fight Duffy. The two have history, and it should serve as a good measuring stick for Conor. If he doesn't destroy Duffy, FW beckons.

Again, provided Duffy wins his next match-up.

Despite what he says about owning the game and being more active than anybody else, he's clearly burned out at this point, so yeah, he definitely needs it.

It's all fun and games when you're on top. The real test comes after a loss. That's when you pay the tax of celebrity, and Conor is paying his tax just like Ronda was post Holly Holm.

This recent stumble aside, he's a better taxpayer than Ronda, although that's not saying much. Nevertheless, he's not some mythical being or once in a generation athlete. He's a big 145er who has a heck of a left hand. LW is one of if not the most competitive weight class in the UFC. A number of people will give him a ton of problems at LW, with or without the sabbatical.

I have no interest in him fighting a no name like Duffy, who already lost to the French dude Conor beat. The Duffy sub was ancient history. Conor needs to stay stubborn and go for the gold at LW, so whether he wins or gets wrecked the popcorn will be glorious. F tune ups. Win big or get rekt big, that's the way of the popcorn.
At least Ronda didn't bitch out and go crying into retirement.

Siver was before he had a strap around his waist. I just think if he's going to get paid millions for his next fight, it should be against either Edgar or Aldo at 145, or a top 5 guy at 155, or Nate at 170. I don't think Duffy is even top 25.

The break will definitely do him good.

GSP said the pressure of being at the top was mentally breaking him.
Bones said the same thing.
Ronda spread went nuts at Holly for no reason.
Anderson lost his mind and clowned to an extent he never had before against The Chris.
Jose Aldo went from bored to furious and charged in uncharacteristically with his guard down.

Conor put on a brave face but was clearly broken by Nate. The pressure at the top is cray.

I agree. I think between the promo, training, and pressure, that it must be exhausting.

Am I the only one that thinks this layoff is probably a good thing long term?

Conor's had a bunch of fights in a short gap of time, and absorbed some really hard shots. In the Diaz fight his chin finally met it's match.

IMO, this time off, hopefully until sometime in October, will let this man rejuvenate and get back to kicking ass.

If he can't get back 145, I'd love to see him rematch with Joe Duffy, provided Duffy wins his next match.

Would be a nice winnable fight for Conor, and decent measuring stick in terms of his place in the division.

If he's able to make 145 then the situation isnt working out too bad for him. He'll still get paid well in his next fight and I think he has a better chance against frankie/aldo then diaz again.
