Media Conor McGregor claims he has the best ‘ground and pound

Why so much triggered in the comments? Do yall expect Conor to just go off the grid and never say a word or give his opinions? Yes, Conor has delusional levels of self belief - that has always been his gig, whether driving a beat up ole car and thinking it was a Bentley before he ever made it big or telling everyone he would become the first champ-champ while people scoffed at the idea of him beating even Marcus Brimage.

He does bring up an interesting point tho - the haters always say Conor had no KO power and that his finishes were TKO's. And if that is true, then his g'n'p must be under rated. Come to think of it, there may be something to learn from Conor's shot selection in those times vs just windmilling and praying for the stoppage.

It's interesting to me that those often most eager to post in Conor threads are those most ready to say Conor is irrelevant. If he's irrelevant to you, why take time out of your day to dedicate it to him? If you really loathe Conor and want him to go away, dont click on the articles - there is a reason that MMAFighting created and article over a Conor tweet, because they know the haters will flood in with their cash cow clicks.

Its solid for a striker but as many have pointed out, there's not much to look at. Its just a couple of shots on badly rocked or unconscious opponents. I made a post on the last page breaking down the stats but looking purely in context, it's hard to really say much about it. He hits hard.

"Best" is clearly hyperbole and a classic McGregorism, but I did not even really think about it until he brought it up. He took that boxing 'timing beats power, precision beats speed' type shot selection approach and used it in his gnp.

I watched Brock's first and second Mir fights the other day, and his shot selection iq went up tremendously over those two fights. In the first he was just throwing random arm punches all over the place, but by the second he was essentially boxing Mir up from top position, much better accuracy & power on the shots and was even going body-body-head. Top position is just such an advantageous position but many fighters dont look to maximize this advantage for striking purposes, and often gas themselves out swarm whiffing at air or blocked shots.

How this guy made 170 million with his mouth, ill never know..

He can barely construct a coherent sentence these days..

So I did some quick maths because why not. In his entire ufc career his ground strike stat is 77/113. Which puts his accuracy at 68%. Solid for a guy who doesn't fight on the ground but in context, it's almost exclusively just finishing shots on unconscious opponents. So let's compare that to a few other fighters.

Another guy who mostly strikes, Volk, managed 68/91 in his first 2 ufc fights. Giving him about 75% and nearly as many strikes in just a couple fights

In a single fight Frankie managed 69/96 giving him 72% and nearly the same amount Conor achieved in his whole ufc career.

In a single fight Khabib landed 88/120 giving him 73% and more strikes in a single fight than Conor has to date.

There are levels to this shit

Yea they have to throw more shots to put their opponents out. Conors shots are so strong and Powaful he needs to throw less.

You are right there is levels and Conor stands atop the heap like a God among men.

It’s similar to Andersons in that when he does it it’s usually accurate and effective. Being said he’s usually just clobbered them on the feet so they can’t really defend themselves

I think he is just referring to how he finishes fights. He stuns then goes for the kill on the ground. That aspect is very good but it is completely non existent if he doesn't land the big punches.

Lol still trolling I see.

Conor hurts people on the feet. He's never put someone out with ground and pounds without dropping them first. The opposite is not true for the others

great ground and pound but def not the best. needs a bigger body of work to claim that.

Yea he's got hundreds of millions, but I still feel sorry for him

Money's not going to fix his mental health issues, nor will with it fix his drinking and drugging issue - which usually causes people to misinterpret reality.

Are the guys on the ground when he hits them? Yes? Then its Ground and Pound!!
