Conor: Just give up the FW belt!

Since they just did 1.5 million buys with him.

Any other brainbusters?

Because of Conor. It was the fight after the Aldo fight Conor hysteria was at an all time high coupled with fucking Holly after Ronda, he could have fought anyone and got those numbers. surgeyou1 your brain is already busted.

Now that it's all but a formality that Nate and Conor (as per Ariel Helwani) are set for rematch it makes sense for Conor to relinquish his FW belt.
The reason is that instead of Frankie/Aldo balking at a top contender or interim belt they'll be fighting for the real strap which of course will get them to sign on the dotted line and hopefully be on UFC 200 as well.
In the end, Conor will end up fighting the winner anyways for the belt and can be hyped up by the fact they all would be on same card. Holding onto the belt will obviously hold up division and tick off even more the top two contenders. By giving up belt it alleviates all the possible problems and in the end Conor will be fighting his next fight for FW title anyway whether he is champ or not. I know it's easier said than done but maybe UFC could make a deposit into the Bank of Conor to help persuade him.

Wrong.

Conor has been champ for fucking 3 months.

Aldo defended one time per year or less as champion.

Conor can fight again this year at 155 or 170 and still defend the belt just as much as Aldo did.

If he pulls out of 5 title fights like Aldo yeah that could be his time frame.

He'll defend it win or lose against Nate. This fight is just the biggest one they could put on for UFC 200.

Just business, baby.

Yeah, alienating half (at least) of the people who buy your product is good for business. Come on, man, unless some major title fight is added, this card isn't doing 1.5 million. I mean, there are a lot of idiots out there, but even some of them won't pay to watch a fight we already know the ending to.

it'd be a disrespectful move to the hypotetic new champ: the belt has to be won in the cage.
only exception is if Conor couldn't make 145 anymore but i hope it isn't going to happen because it'd be a shame.
a shame for the ufc that have allowed it to happen and a shame for McG who'll always be remembered as the one who was the midget's big bully.

He really does not want to fight with anything substantial on the line.
This fight they can hype and twist as they please, but at the end of the day it is mostly inconsequential.

is it me or did I see this thread title worded differently yesterday?....and no he shouldn't give up the belt. He should defend it. Quit this rematch garbage with a guy that beat you in a different weight class. DEFEND THE BELT AGAINST FRANKIE EDGAR

the end

I would be more of a fan of Conor losing at LW than winning at FW. He needs to give up the belt and accustom himself to the heavier competition. It will make him a better fighter and a more respected winner.

Unfortunately, like Mayweather vs Pac Man, a lot of people who have no interest in the sport will be interested because the media will/is making a huge deal out of it

Great idea TS! Conor should just give up his greatest bargaining chip. Are you a fight manager?

With Mayweather/Pac, people didn't know the outcome of the fight (even if they should've). We already know how this one goes down. The first fight was so enlightening because we learned that Conor has nothing for Nate. Nate can take his power, and Conor showed no other way to win a rematch. Even with an increased focus in cardio, he'll be lucky to keep with Diaz's pace for three rounds, much less 5.

I mean, I could be (probably am) wrong, but I just don't see many "casual" fans getting up in a lather over this rematch. I think it would've made more sense to have both McGregor and Diaz fighting in championship fights. You have your two biggest stars fighting for titles. I think that would've intrigued more people.

I agree having Nate fighting for the LW title and Conor defend the title than making a "superfight rematch" for December would have been so much smarter. But there one problem. There's no guarantee Conor defends the belt. Frankie or Aldo can beat him. Maybe the UFC can pull a boss move and give Holloway a title fight and make Aldo/Frankie fight each other. Plus we've already seen Nate vs RDA and things don't look good for Nate.

I've said this before and I'll say this again the average person wants to be lead. Told what to like. They like the illusion of free will but don't like the responsibility that comes with it. If the UFC hypes the fight the media will hype the fight and the average person will eat it up.

That second paragraph is actually a very good point.

I concede this debate to you. This fight is going to do gangbusters.
