Now that it's all but a formality that Nate and Conor (as per Ariel Helwani) are set for rematch it makes sense for Conor to relinquish his FW belt.
The reason is that instead of Frankie/Aldo balking at a top contender or interim belt they'll be fighting for the real strap which of course will get them to sign on the dotted line and hopefully be on UFC 200 as well.
In the end, Conor will end up fighting the winner anyways for the belt and can be hyped up by the fact they all would be on same card. Holding onto the belt will obviously hold up division and tick off even more the top two contenders. By giving up belt it alleviates all the possible problems and in the end Conor will be fighting his next fight for FW title anyway whether he is champ or not. I know it's easier said than done but maybe UFC could make a deposit into the Bank of Conor to help persuade him.

For the 342nd fucking time ... Yes please vacate the belt...

this will be added to the drama UFC wants to sell

relax and enjoy

It's been done to death, but yes he should give it up if he has no intentions of defending which he clearly doesn't

Interesting POV. I am sure Conor will respond to you in this thread

He'll defend it win or lose against Nate. This fight is just the biggest one they could put on for UFC 200.

Just business, baby.

Conor holding FW hostage lol and Dana is letting him.

It's not gonna happen. The Conor anti-fans are getting a bit crazy now. Yall act like no champ has ever not defended his belt for an extended period. The fact is he's had his belt something like 3 months. Get over it the UFC is a business and theyre the ones pulling the strings

Since when has Nate been a PPV draw? Conor could fight Cody Pfister and break a million buys. Conor is risking nothing once again while avoiding Frankie and that horrible weight cut which requires months of dieting for his rich and comfortable ass.

Glad this is getting more recognition the next clear matchup to make is edgar vs aldo 2

Connor will not fight the winner because he can't make 145 anymore. But other than that, yeah, Dana really should end this 'still 145 champ' charade.

In any case, it will happen after Nate beats Conor again because he cannot take a third fight at LW without admitting that he can't make 145 anymore.

Since they just did 1.5 million buys with him.

Any other brainbusters?

TS, the FW belt is Conor's insurance policy. You go home and cancel your auto, health, and home owner's/rental insurance and that's the equivalent of Conor vacating the title.

UFC loses money if Conor vacates. His FW belt is the insurance to more big PPVs. Frankie and Aldo fight for the interim and the winner gets Conor win or lose the fight with Diaz. Try looking at the UFC from a business perspective instead of a fanatical internet warrior.

I don't like this rematch either, but the haters are getting a bit ridiculous about this whole thing. He's been champ for like 90 days, and it will have been 8 months by ufc 200. He will probably defend by the end of the year, which means it will only have been about a year since he won it. By then McGregor will have fought more times in the previous 2 years than Edgar and Aldo combined.

An interim belt when a champion is fully healthy and capable of defending? WTF?

Just strip him already if he's too scared to defend at 145.
