Conor is the white Adrien broner

Conor moves ppvs brah

Well, he at least will this one time

Kudos to the UFC this is how you are suppose to build stars...

We know Conor hasn't faced serious competetion

We know he never fought a wrestler

We know he would most likely lose

But when you put a fighter against low level guys for him to destroy and build him up to be a monster he isn't people pay attention..

Creates this exact rift we have.. The logical people and the insane gullible people who say Conor bless and try to justify their belief that he will win

There's a sucker born every minute

Holloway and poirier are serious competition. Mendes fought wrestlers with no striking, wow super hard match ups for him right?

I'll admit my wife and I bought into the hype.. The night of the maidana fight I was rushing home from work to catch the fight live on the drive I was thinking of who has broner fought vs who has maidana fought I thought back to ortiz fight and had a moment of clarity and knew then he would get run down by maidana if he barely squeaked by Paulie and ponce de Leon who are C level fighters

Same exact situation with Conor except instead of facing a b level fighter he jumped all the way to A

This is gonna be ugly boys believe me. Conor is gonna get lit up

First of all, he's the Irish Adrien Broner. White is too general. Second of all, PDL and Paulie weren't C-level fighters. Broner was more or less the man at LW before he bought his own hype (and also because he ate his way out of LW) and jumped a weight class to go poach a belt against Paulie. PDL was a legitimate win at SFW (he went on to be a legitimate world titlist again 4 pounds down at FW after the Broner fight) even if Broner had problems in that fight (he was about 21 at the time if I remember correctly). Moving up to LW, both DeMarco and Rees were very much legitimate wins and that made him a top 2 fighter at the weight at the time (along with Vazquez at that point in time). Paulie was also a quasi-top WW and, though Broner had some troubles, I think he clearly won the fight.

Broner did have real accomplishments. He was, however, very overhyped and he believed this hype. It was always clear he didn't have anywhere near the ability of a generational talent like Mayweather (who people kept comparing him to), and for a fighter of his talent to jump weight classes like he did, it wasn't surprising to see him take a beating against a rough, crafty, and generally underrated Marcos Maidana (to Broner's credit, though his skills were somewhat exposed, he showed a lot of toughness, never stopped trying to win, and made the fight competitive down the stretch). In reality, Broner is decent talent with some drawing ability (he's more or less universally hated which is somewhat deserved, but people are interestested in seeing him fight just to see him get beaten down) and not a whole lot more. He can be relevant at JWW and be involved in some exciting fights and that's more than you can say for most fighters.

In terms of personality, he is similar to McGregor as both are act ridiculous for the sake of being ridiculous (Broner is far less offensive than most people make him out to be). They're both clowns/idiots who do stupid shit from time to time. People lap up what Conor does (for whatever reason), whereas most people look at Broner for what he is (a clown and an idiot). Relative to sport, McGregor is more talented, but less accomplished. He is a real challenge for Aldo, though, I think Aldo will win. McGregor comes with a far more irritating fanbase than anything surrounding Broner, though.

can you be a bit more specific?

black boxing fans love broner despite the fact that he is blatantly squandering his potential on partying and acting like a jackass

Mexican boxing fans love Canelo and junior, despite the fact that they have crappy footwork and are just bruisers (and junior is just a huge partier that everyone wishes was his father reincarnated)

boxing has major racial segregation, and the races rally behind their fighters, no matter how crappy they are

I think there is a little more to Canelo than that. He has decent skills. He does look lost at times when he is forced to come forward, cut off the ring, and find his opponent.

Considering Irish is a nationality, I think white is a much more specific descriptor.

Won't disagree with much here except the part about Broner being far less offensive than most people make him out to be. Come to boxingunfiltered.com (where I go to talk about boxing), and check in with some hardcore boxing fans to see what they think of Broner. I don't think "offensive" is a good term to describe Broner or Conor, but Broner is annoying as FUCK, and I think his hate is well-earned.

lol, I know all about what most boxing fans think of Broner. He's almost universally hated. He's not likable, but I find him more of just an idiot than anything else. Eating out strippers isn't something that you hate on someone for, it's something that you show genuine concern for because that person is a fucking idiot. He's basically a clown who is a half decent fighter. He doesn't irritate me enough to really passionately hate him especially considering the fact that he does put on some good fights from time to time. Irish is also a rather general ethnic group and it is definitely more specific than just white, but that's unimportant.

he turned pro too early and didn't get that amateur experience learning how to move. it worked great until he got to the top, but now that he's at the top it really is proving to be a problem.

Nice post jay

I think PDL is C+ or B level and I train at the PDL boxing gym in montebello lol.. He's Good but he's not top of the cream we got to be real and Paulie isn't as well

I didn't mean to imply they're identical in accomplishments this was more to illustrate how Conor talked his way into popularity and is being held to a pedestal he sure won't hold and is completely over matched

It has definitely been a problem for him against fighters good on the backfoot (Mayweather, Lara, and even Trout). There are a few others at the weight that have similar skillsets that could be a problem (Charlo brothers, Andrade). Against fighters that move less and come to him, I think he'll look far better. For example, Cotto is a better fighter than most of the aforementioned JMWs, but I think Canelo would have an easier time against him. He's a bit of a poor man's Juan Manuel Marquez to me in a lot of ways. He a good counterpuncher, and he can put his punches together quite well, but when he is forced to make the fight, he looks a little lost.

I think the Canelo example is reaching.. Canelo has excellent hand speed and his hand placement during combinations he has great footwork he's just slow... Dude can't help that lol it's just genetics

And yes people from X tend to cheer for people from the same place because they feel that they share in something in common with them this sharing a victory... I don't find anything racist about it

Yeah, there are definitely similarities there. As I said before, I think McGregor is more talented than Broner relative to sport (I actually really like a lot of the things McGregor does in the cage, especially how he has translated his boxing base which is still by far his most important skill). Aldo is really fucking good, though.

I called Conor this a while ago. My question is after he loses will he own it or make some bullshit excuses.

I'm in the camp that thinks cotto would smoke canelo. he's just a much better fighter. I'm of the belief that canelo's handlers wisely put the brakes on that fight

Canelo is also in a tough spot, because everyone wants him to fight ggg, and that is a death sentence

I think Chavez has lost some appeal, even to the Mexican fans. He was boo'd at the end of the fight against Vera, if I remember correctly.

Eh, they put the brakes on the Cotto fight but let him fight Trout and Lara? I don't think so.

This is actually a very apt comparison. Broner will also never amount to shit.

Weirdman vs Sliver. GPS vs Mack Serra. It happens yo

It happens and it could happen but I dont think it will happen this time.
And also weidman is a legit threat to any version of Anderson and I call that one aswell and altough many did not give him a chance. This is different and i'm sure Aldo will prove that.

Even as a Conor fan I cannot argue against this. Here is Aldo looking spectacular against a better fighter than Conor has ever fought. Conor really doesn't have much of a chance and even the most hardline McGregor fan can admit that if they are being honest.
