Congratulations to Stipe for the win, when everyone doubted him, including me.

If Francis learns to conserve himself and get up I don't want to see this rematch........

You’ve never wrestled a day in your life kid.

You don’t know what it’s like to grind on that mat.

Like Cormier said, Volkan didn’t put in the same hours wrestling as he did. It would be impossible for Volkan to stop his wrestling.

Ngannou is over 30 years old, he’s not gonna catch up to Stipe’s D1 background.

If you read sherdog today EVERYONE knew Stipe was gonna win easily.

Well he managed to get up every single time, even when he was super gassed. There's lots he can learn, hopefully he goes that route.

Not everyone doubted Stipe but a lot did or the odds would not have been so out to lunch for that fight. I personally favoured Stipe in that fight just based off the fact that I felt that being green and heavily muscled was going to do Ngannou no favours going past 2 rounds. To my surprise he still had some zing left in his punches later than that but it was clear when he started becoming very flat footed and planting to throw his shots that he was gassing fast.

Make no mistake, he could have caught Stipe but beyond that there was nothing I had seen Ngannou do that led me to believe he had anything more than heavy hands. Stipe is just the better fighter.

Looks like the only way to settle this is for you guys to look back and see what everyone was actually saying before the fight.

Dan Hardy did a great breakdown of fight and I agreed it was ridiculous that many ppl had stipe as the underdog and he was the betting underdog. He should have been the favorite, based on stats alone stipe was a more accomplished striker with top level wins. If Nganno were to win, it would have been a huge upset in my opinion. It was comical that UFC and everyone had Nganno billed so high, especially since he has been training for 5 years. He's a big guy that's a power puncher which in all honesty is the easiest of all Mma skills to acquire. Kickboxing, wrestling, bjj and clinching takes a lot longer than 5 years to execute again top level Mma guys, let alone title contenders.

Expect to see Nganno to lose more in the next couple of years.

LOL This. I love how all of a sudden everyone knew that Ngannour had 0 chance now.

Straight punches beats wide swinging uppercuts all day.

Francis never had the footwork to contend with Stipe. How can you position yourself to throw an uppercut if you’re opponent isn’t even there or your opponent hits you first with a short straight punch.

Not to mention the huge wrestling gap. Where exactly was he gonna learn how stop the grappling exchanges?

No matter how many details I try to explain, people like you just continue to ignore posters like me trying to give an honest breakdown.

I think he's just making light of how this whole place was on Ngannou's jock, but today everyone was a lifetime Stipe fan.

Stipe 100% outskilled Ngannou. Some things I did notice was that Ngannou's jab was there for days, and he has heart. If he can put in some hard work he will have a bright future. Can he win a rematch? Well.....there wasn't much evidence of that on Saturday, I guess we will have to see how he learns. I get the impression that he's the best guy at his gym.

I didn’t doubt him, I just thought it was a tough matchup for him. Boy was I wrong.... Great job by Stipe.

I thought that Ngannou would rock Miocic early and it would affect the fight. I knew Stipe's wrestling would play a pivotal role if he was to win, but nevertheless I was still impressed with Ngannou.

He never quit and he kept fighting even though Miocic was dominating him. Legends and veteran fighters have been finished by Stipe, so Ngannou making it through 25 minutes showed his heart, toughness, and willingness to go into the championship rounds. He needs improvements but if adjustments are made the potential is till sky high for Black Platinum.

Stipe looked great and solidified why he's one of the best HW's to ever compete in the UFC. I think he's cleared out the division silently and will gain the credit he truly deserves in a champion vs champion fight with DC.

I' Canadian and we don' do a lot of wrestling. But there are plenty of guys who had no wrestling background that learned to get up. He'l the best wrestler in the UFC GSP had no background at all.

Francis isn' old. His not getting up had more to do with his exhaustion and even then he made it back up each time.

I was one of those guys who thought Stipe had no chance. But he went in there and fought a very smart fight. Certainly not the prettiest win for him, and it's not without alot of stalling and a good dose of bike riding, but at the end of the day he got the W.

Ngannou looked super slow in there, his punches were ridiculously telegraphed. Stipe was basically just waiting to tire him out, and it's beyond me how Ngannou didn't realize that would be his game plan going into it.

At any rate, Stipe is a legit Heavyweight champ, and his "0 f*cks given" attitude towards Dana and the UFC is a breath of fresh air. Super respectful guy also, but humble. The silent, strong type.

Ngannou has alot of improving to do; it's very evident that he just started training for MMA. But he's a great prospect and he'll be back strong.

Hespect to both warriors.
You really have to ask yourself why you didnt think Stipe had a chance? You fell for the ufc hype machine and fell in love with Ngannous body type. You didnt watch any fights Ngannou had before Arlovski (clearly). Stop being a follower and think about things your self. Im not accepting your apology. You should have known better. "Thought stipe had no chance" LOL

Sorry but I believe most hardcore fans thought Stipe was gonna win. Including myself.

Also, how could you possibly think Stipe had no chance?! He is the champion, with proven well rounded skills, cardio, knockout power, and fight IQ. They are also heavyweights, where almost every person that size has a punchers chance.

Is it a combination of a) not having watched both men's previous fights, b) falling for the ufc hype machine, and c) predicting a fight by comparing bodies??

Yes there are many hindsight geniuses after the fight who "knew" Stipe was gonna win. Check my posts if u like.

Did you really think I came on here to apologize to you, or anyone else? Lol!

I came on here to eat crow because it was the right/ stand up thing to do. Not because I'm looking for benevolence from fellow shertards.

I think actually the bigger issue wasn't people doubting Stipe, it was overestimating Ngannou.

What did you just call me? Reported.

Honestly after watching Ngannou vs. Blaydes, you could easily tell Ngannou has HUGE holes in his game. I picked Stipe to win by TKO but Ngannou was more durable than I'd thought.

You sound like you're trying really hard to sound intelligent, not sure why though lol. Don't be so insecure about my perception of you, I'm just a random dude on the internet lol.

Bottom line...if you thought Ngannou had no chance to win this fight, you're an absolute idiot with no MMA knowledge yourself.

Hindsight is 20/20 isn't it?

A classic case of projection on your part, as evidenced by wording in thread's title. What prompted you to make this thread is your fear of losing face, the fear that all those ludicrous assertions that you've made during these last several weeks will turn you into a laughing stock. That is why you need to convince us how everyone doubted Stipe...you're trying to whitewash the fact that you're extremely susceptible to marketing tricks by accusing everyone of the same.

Bottom line is that not all of us are prone to falling victim to hype...some of us are able to assess the fighters' skills and overall situation properly and come up with predictions which are most likely to come true. When said predictions become a reality, we don't pretend that things couldn't have gone the other way because we know that fight outcomes aren't definitive...unlike you who would view Francis' victory as a carved in stone sign of second coming.
