At my gym we have both a concept 2 rower and a schwinn airdyne. for those of you who have used the two which do you prefer and why? For tabata intervals i have been using the airdyne, but I don't really know how to incorporate the rower into my training regime. I hear great things about it, just not sure what to do with it. I try to stick to mostly "caveman" style training (tire flips, sledge hits and the sort). anyway, thoughts on the two and different uses would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

You can use the C2 like any other piece of cardio equipment. LSD, sprints, Tabata intervals, HIIT, whichever suits your current goals.

Personally I prefer the C2 because I have one in my basement:icon_chee

Rower by first round KO and armbar.

Rower has longer ROM and involves practically the entire body. Like DrBdan said, how you use it depends on your goals. Sounds like shorter duration/high intensity is your thing, C2s are great for that. Have fun with 500m C2 sprints. :D

I really wish my gym had some decent equipment like C2 rowers. But alas I'm stuck with one super old school rowing machine and an infinite line of ellipticals, stationary bikes and, treadmills. I use all of them at one point or another but I would be supremely happy if they got a C2 or a versa climber.

I own a airdyne at home and it is a great piece of equipment but the c2 is definitely better for the whole body.

I own both and like them equally. If I had to pick one over the other it would be the C2. Reason being, I'm a Judoka, and it helps with the pulling motions used in judo throws. Both are good equipment, it depends on what you want in the equipment.

Both are great. I think the Airdyne is more difficult than the C2, but that probably says more about me than the machines.

Bump - currently in this dilemma

I love HITT and find it very effective (short fast workouts). Example being a weights workout ended with 10 minutes HITT. Seems to work well for me.

I love the air dyne in the gym as its totally non impact, great for when I've been unable to run due to sore knees.

The c2 is clearly a super piece of kit too, so my dilemma is obvious.

The schwinn ad8 is what I'm looking at which isn't exactly cheap but would be love maintenance

Any updated views on this?

Still C2, most lists that rank gym equipment the airdyne is usually towards the bottom while the rower is usually up too

U can do long sessions on the rower as well as intervals, it’s a total body workout plus it actually builds muscle as well as cardio ... might take a little bit initially to get the form right but yes C2 all the way

Got it in my basement this past year and no regerts so far

Airdyne is best for really testing threshold in quads via sprint intervals or working in some other "on/off" movement sequence. Like 30 seconds on (sprint), 30 seconds "off" time is 5 burpees.

C2 better overall body for sure and as mentioned, many different things you can do. 4x500m repeats will get you there for sure. 1k, 2k for time...300m sprints 1 min on/off, etc...

Have fun

ps - if you have both try this one.

3 rds.

400m run
500m row
15 cal airdyne/assualt bike

Rest 1/2 your work time. Ex - 1 rds takes you 5 min, you rest 2:30 then go again. Try to hold you work pace consistent. If you are super fit, add some rounds (4 and 5)

C2.

Nothing has hurt more than 5 rounds of 1.5k row keeping sub 1 min 45 per 500 and 10/15 burpees with rest being either 90s (including burpees) or letting HR decrease to 130 bpm before going again.

There are some rowing machines in my gym but I'm so long that by the time I extend my legs, my arms have just finally pulled the slack out of the pulley and it turns into upper body cardio.

I really like the C2 like some above have said you can use it for any type of cardio, long or short fast or slow. Its also a full body movement with a really large range of motion. I am sure the other is great too but I dont think you are going to crank out a 10k on the airdyne.

Boys boys boys.

I was hell bent on buying an airbike, but after joining a gym with both I quickly realised the concept is much superior.

Anyway, I got the concept 2 model 2 two weeks ago and have been using it every day. It's. My favourite piece of kit ever.

I like to run but my knee started giving trouble prior to doing a second marathon last summer. I can't do alot of running anymore, it flairs up. 5k:s are my limit for the most part. Rowing is filling the gap perfectly!!

I'm not exert but I'm getting fitter and stronger. I'm only 5 7 and am lean so don't have the rowing advantages of some.

My current times are -

500m - 1min 40 (only did this twice)
2k - 7mins 59
5k - 21.5mins

What about you super heros?

{<huh}

Are you taller than Brian Shaw?

lol@too tall for the C2. That's not even a concern until you're in the 7 foot range.

Aren't you basing that on the completely retarded assumption that my gym uses the same model that he is?

Like who the fuck are you to tell me how a rowing machine works for me?

The rower at my gym moves when I try to sprint on it
