Joe is going to be thinking about it tonight, too.

He touched on "This might be the most lopsided Championship match....", thought about it for a sec, then switched topics.

I did think of Tito vs. Handy, in terms of a title fight where the Champion was thoroughly handled.

I disagree with the Dricus Khamzat scores. I think there was a couple 10-8's in there (might need to see it again).

Are there any other title fights like that?

JDS Cain II maybe but I remember JDS landing some bombs.

Is tonight the hardest a UFC Champion has been dunked on that went the distance?

Maybe in terms of pure takedown spam and control time, but there are plenty of examples of champs getting dominated and KTFO badly. Dricus survived and didn’t take any serious damage. The wrestling was just a huge mismatch.

I can't think of any title fights quite like that. Maybe GSP vs. Hardy? But GSP was at least kind of close to finishing with an Armbar at somepoint. That was mostly just wrestle rides from khamzat, with a crucifix here and there and some gnp.

As much as I love Shogun, Jones slaughtered him much worse than this fight.

Oh my bad, you said that went the distance.

Yeah Cain vs JDS 2 is a good one.

Also Volk vs Max 3 was like the striking equivalent of tonight's fight, Max couldn't do shit the whole fight.

Gotta be the fight with the most positional dominance with no damage dealt and no close submission attempts I've ever seen. A true wet blanket performance.

Pendulum swung too far on 10-8s. It went from nearly murdering the other fighter to get one to just comfortably winning a round. Wasn't a single round in that fight worthy of a 10-8.

Have there been any championship five round decisions where the winner landed fewer significant strikes than Chimaev?

I would guess that Sherk has to have a performance up there.

Edit: Sherk landed 35 vs Franca, less than Khamzat tonight. The Hero of Time reigns supreme!

I mean, there’s been plenty of dominant title winning performances. I’d argue ones where the champion got finished are even more dominant, for example Jones vs. Shogun. That fight wasn’t competitive and he beat him so badly they stopped it.

That's probably why no one remembers him, well, that and the failed PED test.

The concept isn't whether the guy got the shit kicked out of him or not.

The idea is the Champion is made to look like an amateur.

I'm basing my 10-8 system as "the fighter has virtually zero offense and is effectively a human punching bag for the round". The strength of the strikes isn't necessarily factored in, just that he was beat up the whole round and offered just about zero offense.

And yeah, that fight did resemble a Sherk performance.

So far, we have 2 Handy fights and Usman T wood that are comparable.
