comicbooks

Seems weird to grade and slab comics since you can't read them like that. They're different from baseball cards slabbed.

Now, I'm buying digital copies on Apple or waiting until they collect several issues into tradepaperback, but I don't like how you open it and fear the pages separating from the glued binding.
its somewhat of a contentious matter in the comic-world, but ultimately for collecting and buying/selling its a useful practice, conspiracies are out there that the main grading entity CGC does some fraudulent stuff but cant say ive seen real evidence

keep in mind these are 30+ years old so if you havent read it by now and dont want to read an online version not sure you want to read them

Anytime a new movie or game drops it’s wild to see what things get inflated for. I’m trying to buy Conan #1 and since the mk1 release with Conan as a downloadable character the price has jumped about $50-100,can’t find a good grade above 6.0 that’s not $500. I’ll give it a couple weeks I figure.

Which run / publisher ?

Just the 1970’s Conan the barbarian #1 (not king Conan) with that nice Barry Smith art. Saw one slabbed #1 at a solid 5 for $300. Someone is selling a raw at $595 in fine condition (it wasn’t) like I said prices all over the place.

You have one you’re looking to get rid of?

Nah , trying to rebuild the Marvel Conan the Barbarian like you.

It's not the same thing at all but there's been an omnibus just released of the early comics with more to follow . At least you can read it ...

Got a collection of 80s and 90s marvel handed down to me and sent a few keys in to be graded, carded and boarded about 100 as they were all raw in boxes and now looking to start expanding the collection.

Any of you guys into comics ? Seems like the market boomed in 2021 and is still coming down so maybe not a bad time to enter, not sure if I should sell my slabbed ones once they come back from CGC...

DC or Marvel ?

Comics > over comicbook movies ?

Who cares shut up nerd ?

Please share your thoughts and feelings about comicbooks ITT ! <3
Just gave away my entire Sandman collection. The magic is gone and shall never return.

I'm drowning my sorrows in elf quest. There's also this "shadowline" series from a branch company of marvel called epic comics that's I've been binging.

80s and 90s are some of the most mass produced books. So the value isnt the greatest. 60s and 70s is where its at. Of course, the older the better, but very difficult to find things from 30s to 60s in good condition.
sadly its true for most of Marvel (dont have much DC or know about them as much), the valuable ones still have thousands floating around even in near mint conditions, its just that the popularity of the movies and some characters have their first appearances like Deadpool or Venom so lots of people want to have them in their collections, or some of the art is super good by the artists (ex McFarlane) which you cant say as often when the comics get older than 80s

Definitely great to hang on to as the popularity of some characters will continue to rise with time. More time passes, more valuable they get. But if you can find an older couple offloading stuff or come across some at a yard sale, you could definitely score some much older gems. Some people even with the net just wanna get rid of shit or dont bother to check value.

i want to go hunting in person but havent yet just looking at stuff online where its i think harder to find that special deal

had a bunch of comic books from the 60s (as well as baseball cards: Maris, Mantle, Whitey Ford, etc.) but mom threw them out .
fucking bitch.

ah well, she's dead now. no hard feelings.
sorry moms.

Marketplace is a great place to score deals.
Sadly this is the best bet, that and EBAY are your main options. Local shops usually have a bs $1 bin you can occasionally find something good in to.

Comics are a terrible investment if you’re just in it for the money though (not saying you are). The books worth serious money are your golden age grails. Detective #1,Cap #1,marvel#1,Action comics#1.ect.

Action #1 (first appearance of Superman) sold for 6 million at a 9.0.

Ebay sucks now. Their fees are outrageous. You can still find most any kind of collectible, but Marketplace is definitely getting there and no fees.

i have a few comic books, mostly from the 80s and 90s.
a few months ago came into the complete collection of married with children comics, posters included.
have the turbo kid comics, to go along with my other turbo kid merch.
i keep my eye out for older comics, i really enjoy seeing the old ads. but haven't come across any in quite awhile, mwc comics aside.

It's so easy to pirate comics, so I do that alot, catch up on alot of old series I loved in the 80s but didnt have the whole collection etc.

I dont know what is NEW that is good. The last thing I read that I liked was Crossed, which is really fucked up. It's so fucked up that they probably couldnt do a tv series on it without toning it down. It's like 28 days later, if the zombies raped people as well as killed them.

Had a pretty big collection at one time. Marvel, DC, Image, Valiant, Chaos, etc, etc. Some decently valuable issues. DD#1, 1st appearance of Wolverine, X-Men 1-3, plus a host of others. Sold them off over the years but kept some that were favorites. At one time I had nearly every Lobo appearance. Well probably like 75% complete. I still own those to this day.

I had Spawn #1 ... thought it would be worth some money by now , it isn't.

Printed about 2 million copies of each.

Just like 90s comics 80s-90s cards are called the junkwax era.

Worse is the fact even someone like Michael Jordan gets downplayed by the newer generations, so unlike Venom/Deadpool getting bigger with films there is no chance the John Olerud/Gary Sheffield rookie cards will hold any value.
