I've never seen a worse group of complainers than comic book fanboys.

They bitch and moan about every little thing and genuinely hate everything comic related but conitune to collect comic books. Strange to say the least.

Or they say something is gonna suck months before it's even released, which is beyond strange.

Personally, I think it's just an excuse so they can bitch and moan all day long. They continually complain that the big 2 don't do anything new but when they do its all complaints and wanting to go back to the past.

I love comic books but HATE comic book fans.

Comic "fans" are not unlike... MMA "fans".

All I heard was "Wah, wah, wah."

You must be a comic book fan.

What is this "MMA" i always hesr people talking about on here. is it like UFC for hardcore UFC fans, like Rage Cage or something. How long til the UFC buys them out and who are their Champions?

title: comic book fans are assholes
content: OP comes out as a comic fan but says he is not a comic fan.

The thing that annoys me is that they get so pissed when a movie or a show doesn't follow the comic 100%. If it's a little different they bitch. For example, I'm a huge fan of the show preacher. But when I go to forums to discuss it with people, comic fans bitch about how it's so different from the novel. Bugs the shit out of me.

To be fair kong alot of complaints are over shlock like to killing off popular characters to replace them with random minorities, or reversing 80 years of continuity so they can have a random plot twist. A lot of comic fans are whiny bitches, but the big two do suck really bad right now. I think comics right now are laregly unreadable and the worst they've been in about 50 years.

I don't know man, if you're a big fan of something it's annoying when they drastically change the source material. Why even adapt it if you're going to change it so much it turns into something else?

I'm a big preacher fan and I'm not even going to watch it after hearing about all the changes. No point in watching and constantly being pissed off at random crappy changes like I was with the walking dead.

But it's somebody else's interpretation of the original material. If the original writer had a problem with it, they wouldn't have let it happen. Now, under the dome for instance completely changed the story line of the book, but they made it kid friendly and went way off course. But, I stopped watching it. I didn't bitch for days on end and call other people idiots for liking it. That's what a lot of comic book fans do.

Its true.

And as a one time comic book nerd I admit it.

Here is the anatomy of a typical comic book nerd.

- glamorizes the years past comic books as if pieces of art
- hates the comic book today and the directions they have gone
- thinks the comic book movie Universe should stick literally to the book universe and basically present the books on screen and never veer or innovate and thus just follow the comics
- the above despite the fact, again, that they think the comics are going in a crappy direction

If you are in any "book" (not just comic) movie or tv show thread, no matter the acclaim the 'book' fans will be the ones complaining and hating on the show or movie. Often because of details like 'he should be taller',. lol

Its not just that. Give it a few months and the comics themselves will bring in new writers who will re-interpret things, change their powers or M.O and that is ok within the comic universe. Just don't do it in cinema. Don't let that group innovate. Only comic writers must change the characters over time.

It silly and his issue only holds up if the comic character is written the exact same way over time in the comics themselves. They are not. They are ever changing. So why should the comics be the only medium to lead that change?

I'll admit that one of the most cringe-worthy moments of my fandom was listening to a 45-50ish longhair alternate between fawning over Chris Claremont and chastising him over "letting the Donners get away with what they did."

Personally, I've always enjoy "status quo" sorts of writing. Let change to the mythos happen organically. Frank Miller's complete shake up of Daredevil made sense and, years later, Kevin Smith had a damn good run without trying to retcon all of it. Christopher Priest's Black Panther was fantastic because it expanded on the character, his history, and his background in way we weren't privy to before. Reggie Hudlin decided to flat out contradict much of that run to crank out what read like blaxploitation.

Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-men, Mark Waid's JLA, Geoff John's JSA, and Chuck Dixon's Bat-everything-for-like-six-years were all cases of writers taking what we know and expanding or digging into it. Those runs became iconic because the material was first and the writer's ego/market image was second.

Want a great burger? Cook it right and use quality ingredients. All the toppings and artisan buns in the world won't help if you switch the patty out for quinoa.

I like to tell people that I'm a Galactus fan first, and a comic book fan second. I like to tell people that because it's the absolute truth.

i would even extend this to nerd culture in general, all things like star trek, star wars, doctor who, etc

Most people who complain don't even collect it seems

I stopped reading after they killed off a bunch of my favorite characters and cancelled a bunch of comics I liked.

Then I thought about coming back and learned they killed off and cancelled more of them and DC rebooted the rest.

And now Captain America was evil all along.
