Comic Book Discussion Thread Vol. 10

Extremely popular comic book characters I can't stand:

Spiderman
Fantastic Four

it isn't my viewpoint, that's the thing. it's the collective viewpoint of the marvel comic reading public, every single one of them. nobody chose stark's side. nobody.
I actually was pro-registration, not because of Stark but the idea itself and the importance of it if this was set in the real world.

And I agree with you on why Civil War failed and how I liked the underrated Annihilation crossover more.

In Civil War, I was pro-registration but felt that Cap opposing it didn't make sense. I felt that it should have been the other way around. Cap is a soldier and do what he's told, mostly. Stark is a civilian and values privacy and anonymity, not to mention the years he spent hiding his secret identity.

In Schism, Wolverine is flat out wrong and Cyclops was correct. The teens should be prepared to fight for their survival instead of constantly running away.

In Avengers Vs X-Men, Cyclops insistence that the Phoenix would be good for mutantkind and the start of the mutant rebirth just sounds iffy. And it makes less sense when Cyclops has so many years of bad experience in dealing with the Phoenix.

These.

Characterizations were out-of-whatck. It would have made more sense if Cap lead the pro-registration brigade.

Great potential and good beginning, but mediocre second half and unsatisfactory ending.

In Civil War, I was completely on Cap's side. I think Cap being anti-legislation made perfect sense. He's very conservative and those kind of guys are always for smaller government, strongly support laws like stand your ground and things like that.

Tony Stark represents the modern age where the government wants you to completely trust in big brother to always protect you.

I can understand why people would be tired of Wolverine, but before he got too popular there was nothing not to like. He was the coolest character in comics from Uncanny X-Men 132 to ~ 213. Fact.

And not liking Spiderman....I don't have the words.

Amazing. Since my return to comics. Two of my favorite story arcs contained heros I totally disregarded when I was collecting.

The Eternals by Gaiman and Romita and War of Kings featuring the Inhumans.

So true. I always thought of The Eternals as uber lame but that mini-series is so awesome, one of Marvel's best ever imo. I wish Marvel was a little more selective with what they greenlight.

So many characters are completely amazing but lack either the depth or vision to maintain 1 ongoing series, let alone 3-4.

Characters like The Eternals, The Inhumans, The Black Panther, Silver Surfer, Doctor Strange, WOLVERINE....should be relegated to supporting characters, occasional antagonists, and/or featured in mini-series (3-24 issues).

I don't hate Wolverine but I'm just sick and tired of seeing the character appear in a lot of Marvel titles, let alone being a member of at least 3 different teams. Also don't like that he's gone soft and the writers gave him the wrong stance during Schism.

I agree with you but I will extend that run up to Uncanny X-Men #251 or somewhere near that.

We are in sync on this. His pussification started before Schism. Before that he was Cyclops henchman for a few years (I don't even remember how/when that started). I was hoping post-Schism Wolverine would go back to his roots of Man/Animal struggling with his dark-side.

I also agree that he was still awesome beyond 213 but I can see how it would be cool to start hating him right around then.

Just read Glory from Image. It was decent overall. Not a comic I'll ever bother reading again, but good enough to read once.

like how dillon draws punisher at the most 6 feet athletic but no roided out and looks like he is 50 something

dillon's punisher is good and looks mean for sure but larosa's looks fucking scary is the best way to put it. you know how batman has been battling crime for decades and doesn't have a mark on him. well larosa's punisher looks like a roadmap of pain and violence. you can tell he has seen and done some shit. punisher max is great but if i could change one thing i woulda had larosa illustrate the whole run.

Everyone enjoy free comic book day? And did you pick up Green Arrow too?

I enjoyed it. I met David Mack, the current illustrator of Daredevil. An artist was there painting Walker makeup on people's faces.

cool, JT Krul was at my comic shop, I'm not that big of a fan of him though

I had no idea who he was lol. I felt like a dick when I asked his name. He was really cool though. He had this great Wolverine drawing. Kind of reminded me of Hugh Jackman. :P

haha EW..

Was that an April Fools poll? Or a magnificent troll job by EW? Plus, Thor and Captain Marvel need to switch brackets. Or is that Shazam Cpt. marvel?

Pleasantly surprised Hellboy made it to the sweet sixteen.

That being said, that is not a well constructed bracket AND I see a lot of odd choices and omissions.
