Comic Book Discussion Thread V.17 (R.I.P. Sal Buscema)

I read the first 2 Volumes of Vagabond, and they did not disappoint. It's about the life of real life Samurai "Miyamoto Musashi" however the book is based off of the Novel "Musashi" by Eiji yoshikawa: which is not that historically accurate when concerned with musashi's life story , how ever it is an accurate portrayal of 16th century japan.

Did this series ever finish?

You know what's good if you like Vagabond, Slam Dunk.

I forgot how nasty comic nerd fights were, haha! And I'm not just talking about over the internet. They've been going on since stores began selling the things, from what I can tell

Great art...is it fantasized at all?

Nope no fantasy that i've seen thus far, and each of my volumes contain 3 of the regular books so that's 6 books. Their is a spiritual aspect to his training but its more philosophy/Zen

I'm not sure, probably the same thing but just slightly different is my guess. The original came out in 1998.

Wikipedia detail below

"Written and illustrated by Takehiko Inoue, Vagabond is based on Eiji Yoshikawa's 1935 novel Musashi and has been serialized in Weekly Morning since 1998. He began the series Real in Weekly Young Jump in 2001, and currently creates it alongside Vagabond. As of July 2014, the Vagabond chapters have been collected into 37 tankōbon volumes by Kodansha.

Viz Media began releasing Vagabond in English in North America in 2002.[10] Their release retains the color pages from the series' magazine run, and the company has published 37 volumes as of April 21, 2015.[11] Viz's release is distributed in Australasia by Madman Entertainment.[12] In 2008, Viz began re-releasing the series in a format that collects three of the volumes into one."

Action Comics Special #1 - Best thing ive read in a while

The Last Will and Testament of Lex Luthor by Jurgens was incredible. A classic story

And the Mark Russell Lex/Trump allegory was funny too.

@Anung Un Rama
@Dragonlordxxxxx
@Secret Agent

I'm just revving up the hobby again after a few years hiatus.
Going to catch up on Saga, HB, and Invincible before going into that pulp noir stuff you dig.

Huh?? You hated issue #4 of Hickman's Infinity????
#4 introduced the real reason Thanos came to Earth in first place, Thane.

It also had maybe the most epic fight in whole series, Thanos v. Black Bolt.
it was fucking INCREDIBLE.

keep your secrets, carry them to the grave!

plus it had Thor showing the Builders could die, igniting the rally to stop the Builders and save the universe (temporarily as incursions were coming).

Infinity was fucking awesome, only slightly behind Annihilation in recent cosmic events. Well maybe Secret Wars 2015, I dunno. Annihilation,Infinity and SW 2015 are all epic and awesome and memorable.

But again I dunno, some people like DKIII Master Race and I wasn't a fan at all.

I didn't like this sequence because non-IG wielding Thanos shrugging off Black Bolt's full scream at point blank range to the face is ridiculous. The artwork and action were incredible, but writers can't be doing shit like that.

When you do get to the pulp, start with Parker by darwyn Cooke

Saga is good , it has all the alien racism and magic a guy could ever want

Read a lot of 90's DC stuff and I'm interested in reading super hero comics again, specifically Marvel. Is this a good time to get back into it?

Well, I wouldn't say Thanos shrugged it off, it did blow up Attilan, knock all his armor off and do some damage, but yeah it didn't rip him in half like it would've in the past. But Black Bolts scream has been powered down some in the past 10-15 years. Hulk took a full scream in WWH and kept moving, albeit with much more noticeable damage.

I'm also not sure Blackaar Boltagon (I just wanted to type his name, P4P best name in Marvel) was letting his blast go at full volume, he didn't do any damage to New York despite Attilan being in the water right off Manhattan.
I think the sequence does a great job showing off Thanos ' durability, he takes a full bore blast from Mjolnir right in the face without showing much damage inn the final battle, but I see people being put off that Thanos without the IG, a cosmic cube or the Heart of the Universe, shrugging off such high impact attacks without much damage.

BB only gave WWH as whisper:

Just looking at WWH you're right, we see Hulk tell him he came to make him scream but we don't see the rest of the battle, just Hulk holding a beaten BB during his hologram speech.

What story had BB screaming at Hulk, showing him losing muscle down to almost the bone, but Hulk recovering?
