DC Reveals Major Changes, New Direction For Comic Book Line
JUSTL_Cv40_1_25_var.jpg

Beginning in June, DC Entertainment is de-emphasizing continuity and scrapping the "New 52" branding of its superhero comics line, as the publisher launches a “bold new direction for the DC Universe” and a slew of new titles it's calling “inclusive,” "contemporary," and "accessible."

“In this new era of storytelling, story will trump continuity as we continue to empower creators to tell the best stories in the industry,” DC Co-Publisher Dan DiDio says in a press release announcing the June launch, which follows the company's two-month break for its line-wide Convergence event.

In June, DC reports it will publish 24 new #1 issues to join 25 already-existing comics that will continue from their March numbering for a total of 49. New titles will be added to the line throughout the year. DC's new line will introduce some new creators to DC, like Ming Doyle and Gene Luen Yang, while also bringing back some familiar faces, like Garth Ennis and Bryan Hitch.

And to clarify: Although DC is no longer using the "New 52" moniker, the 2011-launched, rebooted DC universe is apparently sticking around — just with less emphasis on the new universe's continuity, and more emphasis on diversifying the line.

In its announcement on Friday, DC says they’re evolving their comic storytelling to appeal to a wider group of readers, and its “next generation of fans.”

Using terms like "contemporary tonality," "fresh," "inclusive," "accessible" and "modern" to describe its new comics. DiDio says the company's new line will "tell stories that better reflect the society around us."

Interesting to see that the new Justice League Dark comic is called "Dark Universe". Guillermo del Toro used the same title for his rumoured Justice League Dark movie.
Cyborg is finally getting his own comic and so does the Martian Manhunter.
Overall I'm happy to see the direction they'll be taking after "Convergence".

Anyone read the new issue of Uncanny Avengers 1.

Pretty good so far. Weird team to say the least Rogue, Scarlett Witch, Sabertooth, Quicksilver, Vision, Brother Voodoo and Falcon Cap.

Pretty much the storyline is a fallout from AXIS. Magneto is not the father of Scarlett Witch and Quicksilver.

Looks like a major recon going on with those characters.

Enjoyed the hell out of it and can't wait for more.

I really liked the last run before Axis, with Havok and the Apocalypse Twins. Once Red Skullslaught showed up it went shithouse.. Thankfully it was only a couple issues.

Rogue and Sabertooth on the same team gives me the AoA feels, so I like it. I'd like to see this artist's take on Nightcrawler.

all this retcon, and ignoring continuity, really screws up the who would beat who conversations.

which might be a good thing cause that gets annoying after a while

just reference eras like Golden, Silver, Bronze, or alternate versions like All-Star, Earth-One, or Ultimate

Who's the guy on the Far Left ?

Anyways finally got around to reading The Thanos Imperative , this was definitely one of the more entertaining Cosmic Marvel reads , much better than what was attempted in Infinity.

Decides to give Batman New 52 a shot since its been a while since I've read anything batman related. It's not great by any means but its not completely horrible. Only on #6.

Why did this get the hate that it does around here?

so Wolverine is on his way to being brought back to life by Mr. Sinister.

oh ya, and it should give some characters a chance to shine.

but damn is it hard to get into a story line knowing the impact will be nullified in a couple years.

people hated it? I think most people liked it, just disappointed that it wasn't better, Court of Owls/Night of Owls is very enjoyable

I agree, and The Snyder and Capullo combo is real strong in the first 2 volumes.

so Wolverine is on his way to being brought back to life by Mr. Sinister.

What irks me about this is:
1. They did a poor job of telling his "death" story -- at least ending it.
2. We all knew this was going to happen
3. Dude isn't even cold yet and they're already bringing him back
4. His solo series sucks and has always sucked

but worst of all, they're working Mr. Sinister into the mix. Dude is my favorite villain and the one that Marvel hasn't worn thin .... this has me torn.

bebop -- have the Sinister issues been good? How's the art? writing?

Is Wolverine an Inhuman yet?

Was thinking of making a new thread about it but I figure it will reach all the right people here.

If you're kinda older you probably remember that site. Lots of great memories there. One thing I like about it is it's not all fights, and the themed ones are pretty cool.

Some neat ones:

http://www.electricferret.com/fights/mobrules.htm The Kingpin vs. The Penguin vs. Jabba the Hutt in a mobster battle. Who can raise the strongest mob?

http://www.electricferret.com/fights/stealyourface.htm Black Cat vs. Catwoman vs. Gambit in a heist contest.

http://www.electricferret.com/fights/runroses.htm Predator vs. the Road Runner. Some funny stuff in that one.

http://www.electricferret.com/fights/coffinnail.htm BLADE vs. BUFFY vs. VAMPIRE HUNTER D. Battle of le vampire hunters.

I just remember people hating on Batman and the new 52 (plus general DC hate). All i've read from the new 52 is Green Arrow and the Aquaman trench arch.

GA was amazing and I got to say I liked the Aquaman as well. I liked how they poked fun at the fact that that Aquaman is considered a joke by most fans.

Green arrow didnt really get good till lemire came on. Aquaman has been great its whole run. I feel swamp thing has been the best book to come out of the new 52. Animal man was good as well
