Collective Bargaining Now

How many dick jokes am I allowed to make in a day

The complaint: UFC fighters get 18% while NFL players get 50%

The reason why that's normal: The NFL generates a ton more revenue, and in an entertainment business as revenue goes up the "talent" always increases the percentage of take-home, because all other costs are either fixed or employees that are not public facing and easily replaced.

The amount of revenue generated doesn’t really play a big factor in the percentages though. I mean you may have a small point when talking about fixed costs and otherwise replaceable employees, but 50% compared to 18-20% is inexcusable. When executives take home so much money, it’s easy to find another 20-30% to pay the ones who actually generate the revenue.

Fighters need a bigger slice than what these numbers say, there really isn’t another way to see it.

18% would be cool IF the UFC was making major bank life NFL or MLB.

But 18% of shit is shit

but 50% compared to 18-20% is inexcusable..

not really.

Is the UFC a team sport with a permanent stadium? Guaranteed income in the form of season tickets, merchandise revenue etc from the City or State in which it resides because of long term and permanent fanbase.

Does an NFL team have to move its entire structure from city to city, country to country each week? Do NFL teams have to hire stadia and pay a percentage of the revenue to the owner of the venue?

Its stupid to even try and compare MMA with the NFL

fwiw, in the Tennis grand slams the average payout v income is around 12%

the nfl collective bargaining agreement likely keeps salaries DOWN.

it's competition that lifts market value. as long as fighters are replaceable what matters for salaries are what they can make elsewhere.

This is major truth.

Cost vs profit is way fucking different between the 2.

In fact it worlds apart.

From the article in the OP:

"While recently revisiting a filing from January, I noticed the plaintiffs repeated a mistake they originally made three years ago. They submitted a filing that appeared redacted at first glance, yet every word could be seen by a simple copy/paste."

That. Is. Awesome.

I expect a first year law associate will get fired over this (which is not awesome, but probably deserved).

i did concede that there are differences, but none so big that justifies such a wide margin.

for instance, the guaranteed income angle doesnt really work because its still just a percentage of the income they do generate. if its a profitable business, it shouldnt matter what the prospective income is. everyone eats when youre profiting that much, and the talent still deserves a considerable amount, if not the lion's share. executives and owners dont deserve more than 50%, they may not even deserve that much and they certainly should not be pocketing more than the talent who are the only reason the organization does turn a profit.

and while some of what you said may be true for the NFL, the same 50% split exists in the NBA, and teams still have to use arenas that other acts and sports use, including the UFC. they also do have to up and move their equipment and structure on a nightly basis. so the permanent stadium angle and not having to move equipment and venues all the time is a question mark for me as well. Again, NBA players still get a gigantic split and they have the same issues in the same arenas the UFC uses.

So why are you justifying a significantly lower payout ratio with a comparison of absolute numbers?
