Colby: UFC told me plain and simple that Jorge doesnt like the style match up.

It would be retarded for Masvidal to risk other big paydays to fight Colby and likely lose all his hype and momentum.

He should defend the BMF belt or take some other fan friendly fight for a big payday.
But does his value whither while sitting on the shelf? Mas one the main topics on Sherdog a few months ago. Lately, he's gotten very little buzz.

What big fights do you see as possible for him in the foreseeable future?

He has dirt on Jorge? He'd be a total wanker to reveal personal information about a previous good friend.

Thompson vs Colby
Mas vs Khazmat (book this when Leon pulls out again in mid Jan)

Then they should make the Wonderboy fight as soon as Stephen heals up easy as that

Actually.....now that I think about it.....
Jorge Masvidal vs Stephen Thompson is perfect!

Masvidal is known to want that fight again, he has said so in interviews, I remember watching them.
Thompson has CLEARLY stated he wants that fight after his win a few days ago.

OK ...my prediction now (having thought a bit) is the UFC are going to make Masvidal vs Thompson as a Main Event on a card probably around March or April. Gives Wonderboy a month or 6weeks off before he starts a fight camp again.

That fight is perfect : both want it, Masvidal only fought once in 2020 (3 times in 2019) and Thompson KNOWS that Masvidal is a bit of a star right now and for Thompson, if he beats Masvidal (again..) he can legit ask for a title-shot I think.
If Masvidal and UFC can agree money (he seems to price his fights very high these days) then I can totally see this fight happening in the ext few months.

Plus UFC know that Masvidal and Thompson is 90% likely to be a stand-up fight. They like that. It's unlikely to hit the mat for long at all (if it does at all). Main Event for sure, that totally works.
Yeah, gotta agree with that logic. It's a much better fight than Colby x Masvidal. That's pretty much a replay of Usman x Masvidal.

Colby might be right on some things, but on the other side he was caught lying like 20 times in the press alone and nobody believes a word he says.

That was the case up until recently, now almost everyone here's drinking his dickjuice. It's embarrassing.

This is the same guy who said the he knocked out Poirier, Masvidal and Woodley during sparring sessions and left them in "pools of blood". I don't think he really has fans, just Masvidal haters.

I have no problem with fighters 'managing their careers' in the sense of maximizing money and minimizing risk etc. Its a short career, theyre generally underpaid, so they should absolutely do this.

With that said, if you're going to call yourself the BMF and carry that fake belt around and pretend you're tony Montana wearing robes in arenas etc, you have to accept that all that 'career management' stuff is actual ducking now and you look like a bitch (relative to ppl who fight in a cage for a living of course)

I'm surprised that Colby was the first to come up with Defund the Media, as far as I know. That's gold.

I like them both, but the style match up is definitely bad for Masvidal. I rather see him fight Nate again or Nick.
Colby can end the hazmat hype meanwhile.

Depends on Wonderboys knee. He may not be ready to fight.

Masvidal has kind of painted himself into a corner. He got beaten soundly by Usman and knows that he'd get beaten by Colby. He's already lost to Wonderboy (who looked fantastic in his fight this weekend) and would likely lose again.

You can't represent yourself as a perennial title contender if you don't want to fight the guys that are hunting the title.
fair points.

I think what will happen is this :
- UFC wait for Thompson to let them know what is up with his knee. IF it's just a muscle tear it's probably fairly minor and will probably heal in a month, maybe 6weeks (not sure on muscle-tear repair time-frames actually).
- IF it is a fairly minor injury I predict UFC formally offer Thompson the Masvidal fight AND offer it to Masvidal too. Masvidal FOR SURE would rather fight Thompson than a wrestle-heavy Covington. More his type of fight.

The only sticking point is probably Masvidal's $$$ demands and I think he needs to back that off a bit and get BACK in the cage. It's been a while since he fought (July) and he only fought once in 2020. I think that this fight will get announced in January.

I believe UFC will say "Jorge --- it's THOMPSON or it's COVINGTON -- pick your poison. Accept ONE of those fights".

Yeah, gotta agree with that logic. It's a much better fight than Colby x Masvidal. That's pretty much a replay of Usman x Masvidal.
exactly! Great point!
Usman vs Masvidal wasn't very entertaining. Usman does what Usman does, fair enough. BUT...it wasn't an entertaining fight.
I see the same thing : Masvidal vs Covington is gonna be more or less a repeat, style-wise.

If UFC want an entertaining fight (And they DO) then......they make Masvidal vs Thompson for March or April and pay Jorge enough to get him to sign. That's what I believe is going to happen.

Us fans getting screwed out of this fight and I'm a fan of both. Masvidal is the man and all, but just weird to me he hasn't fought Edwards or Colby yet. I mean I get it, he took the Usman fight so IDK maybe he's holding out for something better. A lot of fans thought he was avoiding Usman, but in reality he got Usman and the big pay day.

I just really hope it's not true that he didn't want to fight Colby due to the style match up. That's not the Gamebred we know and love
His record against wrestlers is bad. Which is why he wouldn't want that fight.

But does his value whither while sitting on the shelf? Mas one the main topics on Sherdog a few months ago. Lately, he's gotten very little buzz.

Yeah, I think his value is dropping. Short notice or not he got smoked by Usman.

I also think he made a LOT of money in his last two fights, so that may explain his extended off season.

Big fights?

Wonderboy rematch. Jorge would lose but it would sell, especially if they played up a possible title shot for the winner (even if they didn’t follow thru later, the MMA world is pretty easily bamboozled)

Conor if he loses to Dustin.

leon they could squeeze every last penny out of the 3 piece footage and gimmick.

Khamzat if he proves he can hang at the top, even with a competitive loss, they could sell it if both guys run their mouth. If I were sean Shelby I Would probably stage some lobby/hallway type high drama altercation, that would be like shooting fish in a barrel with the right story behind it.

Realistically Mas isn’t going to take out Usman and be champ, I don’t know if he would go back to 155 but he has a better chance there, but I still think he falls short.

I think they missed the boat on a big Conor fight after Conor beat Cerrone.

If Jorge wants to fight they can find a way to sell some PPVs, I personally think he loses most of the matches that would sell well, but he can grab a little money in the process.

Masvidal probably wants the Nate rematch, or Nick. I had a feeling this fight wouldnt happen.

Colby vs Wonderboy makes sense rankings wise if Wonderboy's knee doesn't have ligament damage. They could fight April/May & the winner could wait on the Champ to defend vs Leon/Khamzat winner.
