There are two kinds of science denialists in this pandemic. First, those who underplay the gravity of the effects and dangers of the virus. Second, those who underplay the effects that economic stagnation has on lives and health.
The majority is caught in one of the two, because of squarely political inflections. The only serious non-science denialist is one that avoids both underplayings, and integrates analysis of the virus' effects to economic ones. We should listen to doctors and virologists, but also to economists and sociologists.
Yes, the virus has not only lethal but oftentimes long term health effects. Yes, economic stagnation causes death indexes to rise and potentiates physical and health issues. The two are correlated in complex ways insofar as prevention to the virus leads to economic hit for a variety of reasons, e.g. incapacity to work, depression from losing work/isolation, etc.
