Clay Guida has the best cardio ever

Hear me out.

Seriously. He keeps jumping around every single minute of the fight. His movements are so unsmooth and jerky. Absoluetly zero rhythm to anything he does. 90% of his bodily movements seem unnecessary. He is either too tight or he throws his limbs around as if they do not belong to/not attached to his body And He maintains that clowniness for every single round. If he were to move like normal fighters, he could go 10 rounds at the same pace. I consider GSP as having one of the best cardio in MMA but I bet if he tries moving around like Guida does, and doing stuff the way Guida does he'll drop dead from exhaustion in the third round.

Forget Cain, Forget GSP, Forget Nick Diaz , Guida is the man.

I laughed, and I have to say you make a pretty good point. One thing I will tell you, his long hair give the illusion of a lot more movement than he actually makes. Also, his long hair makes punches that miss look like they hit. It's really just not a good choice for combat sports unless you are going to cornrow it like Uriah.

But for your central point, I have a hard time disagreeing.

Shame he seems to think his hyper, cardio act scores points. I liked the guy briefly but then saw him for what he was/is. Can't stand him or his 'style'. Which is nothing more than acting busy and doing nothing while trying to influence the judges and referee with his hyperactivity.

I used to run a shitload of mils per week and I would have guessed in a couple of minutes if I had to grapple hard. They aren't the same at all.
right. Everything I've heard leads me to believe that training cardio for a fight really is as simple as making sparring/"live" rolling your cardio routine. It just so happens that doing so is taxing as fuck because it usually entails sparring for twice the maximum length of time you could fight for-- so 6 rounds for 3, 10 for 5, etc. Forrest Griffin alluded to doing something similar himself, and always had admirable conditioning.

I'd imagine that the first week or two would be really fucking taxing and more just an exercise in lasting out every round, but that it would become increasingly easy to the point where going 3 rounds hardly seems like a big deal in the last week of sparring.
Funny how all these "great cardio" guys are pitter patter punchers.
Diaz and his brother Nate can both crack when they want to, and Cain hits like a truck with the right hand.

Clay gets too much hate. He's pushing 20 fights in the UFC and has been there since 06. Yeah, he's had some stinkers, but he also has been in some of the most memorable fights in UFC history. And no it's not "just when he is getting his ass kicked!"

He was beating Huerta badly the first two rounds, and I thought he won the Griffin fight. He has 8 award bonuses.

What's funny about that? It's pretty standard in athletics that the most explosive guys don't have the best cardio, and the guys with the best cardio aren't the most explosive.

It's true that running mainly aids the standup fighting (movement, punches and kicks) but it does improve your cardio for any activity (such as grappling) as well.

Been a while since I watched it but I remember Gil having better cardio when they fought.
