PS @HughPhug as you were interested in my doom stuff

LOL. Just try and follow John Romero's rules and don't fall into the "Wolfenstein 3D" trap where you have room after room with identical floor/ceiling heights and you should be alright! I also recommend UDMF format unless you're just trying to be extra strict and abide by vanilla rules.

Let me know whenever you finish it. I'd love to check it out!
So simple, and yet so brilliant: the definition of elegance.

#7 is in my opinion perhaps the most important of all rules. I've praised it before for this, but Half-Life 2 took this to new heights by making spaces you had seen several levels ago in the distance on the horizon real places that you explored later in the campaign. This single strategy imbued the game with a more immersive feel than any other campaign I've ever played in my life.

@Clippy

I watched your play through of E5M2 and 3 of Sigil last night, good stuff, but I have to ask, were you drunk? Listening to you in the first five minutes of the video I was thinking either you’re drunk or having a stroke.

I played Doom for the first time since like 2 decades and I got a dumb question to ask: You can't aim up or down?

In dooms original release no

No up and down

I play with zdoom which is an enhanced source port that allows this feature

I'm enjoying Doom 1 so far. I completed Knee Deep in the Dead (I did not expect the ending lol).

@Clippy I’ve been watching your Sigil vids. My God man, why are you struggling so much? Things weren’t so bad for the first 4 levels but then once you hit “Aladdin’s” Void everything went to shit for you, and then got even worse for E5M6.

Couple of pointers:
1. The two Cyberdemons on E5M5 can both be telefragged. Earlier on in your play through you commented on the pillar nearby one of them but somehow you never noticed that later on the pillar had been lowered to reveal a teleported. There’s another one by the other Cyberdemon. Time it right to teleport into the Cyberdemons

2. You struggled with the darkness a lot on E5M6 and you’ll run into the same problem on E5M8. You’re playing on a source port like GZDoom or something, right? What you need to do is go to options and change your renderer, otherwise you can’t see shit. You need to set it to software mode.

3. when you were flying around E5M6 with no clip mode on you came upon a room that you speculated was a room where monsters teleport out of. That room is actually the entrance to the secret level - you’ll note it has one of those Baphomet wall textures that are the exit for each level lying on the ground. I’m surprised it didn’t show up as a secret too, as it’s probably the hardest secret to find in the game. From that elevated cage that had the Baron if you look around you’ll see just the slightest sliver of one of those green eyes that you can shoot that itself is almost completely hidden by a wall.

P.S. I laughed really hard during E5M4 in the crushing room when you stopped for a second to look at some weird red light texture and you asked “is that a paper clip??”

P.PS. What the hell were those orange cacodemons you summoned to cheat against the Cyberdemon?
