Ok I think I'm calling it done after testing it over and over - all difficulty settings work etc
I think it's quite challenging for a more advanced player - def helps to have a strategy get a feel for the map. As I know it I can beat it in 15 minutes but it may take you much longer
I am excited to see how you deal with this level and to hear your thoughts - please be honest - I may release it fully afterwards unless I want to change something
Hey, I finally beat it earlier today!
Man, you were NOT kidding when you said it was challenging. My first few attempts did not go well. On my first or second attempt, I backtracked too much through the lava and couldn't find anymore radiation suits so I was toast. On my next attempt, I made it all the way to the Archviles just beyond the large door with the "Exit" signs in front of it and couldn't kill them before they nuked my ass into oblivion. After that failure, I found and explored the little apartment ("Stop using my toilet!," LMAO!) only to be greeted by two Cyberdemon rockets to the face as soon as I tried to leave (Note to self: DO NOT step inside if the Cyberdemon is still kicking!).
I finally got the hang of the layout and managed to finish it (not without save-scumming through the last few encounters, I'll admit). I really liked how crazy and inventive some of the areas were (it reminded me of a traditional batshit-crazy Sandy Petersen map; evil traps galore), and there seemed to be plenty of health and ammo to keep me going throughout most of the map. I also liked how nonlinear the map was, and how there were a bunch of areas that looped back around to others, often times resulting in shortcuts.
I think the only three complaints I have are:
1.) The switches in the starting area are a little confusing (there's one that requires the yellow key for example, yet there's nothing on or near the switch that indicates that requirement)
2.) The relatively-lengthy lava pit absolutely demolishes your health, yet there are very few radiation suits and the only health pickups (with the exception of the single Megasphere at the start) are located at the very end of the pit--where you'll probably never make it if you're already hurt
3.) The final stretch with the Barons rising up from the ground followed by the two Archviles seems a little too cruel since the player has next to no room to maneuver and the only thing that can block the Archviles' devastating attacks--the small "exit" structure itself--is positioned right against the edge of the narrow landmass and thus can easily be "clogged" by Barons on both sides, in which case you're pretty much fucked (the only method of escape, the lava, is VERY bad news unless you're already doing really well on health/armor).
Overall I really enjoyed it. You should definitely try making more maps!
