Rumored Ciryl Gane plans to return in September and targets a fight with Sergei Pavlovich.

Good chance Gane beats him

Very tough style matchup for Sergei.

He made Ngannou wrestle to beat him.

Pav deserves shot. Fight Jailton/Aspinall in Paris if they win. Gane needs to be tested by a grappler to see if he can make the necessary improvements before getting in title talks.

So Gane, coming off a loss, gets the chance to possibly derail a worthy title contender who is on a 6 fight win streak? Is this an effort to eliminate contenders for Jones in order to protect him?

Just when you think the HW division looks like fun at the moment, the UFC pulls this shit. If Sergei loses, even to a close decision, he won't fighting for a title for a while.

I agree this would be a dumb fight to make for the division. However this source is crap and I doubt UFC even wants to make the fight. Pretty sure it's all based on some Fernand Lopez interview where he discussed fighting Pavlovich, doubt it ends up happening though.

I think we know why people who happen to be both Gane and Jones fans don't like Pavlovich.

Why would the UFC do this? If Gane wins, no way they can sell Gane vS Jones 2. Jones would retire first. And the division would look weak.

Usually the UFC makes fights that make sense on either side of who the winner is. So it’s win-win for them regardless.
Jon would win again if they rematch

I really want to see this fight tbh, can Pablo's pressure overcome the footwork of Gane (probably not).

But the pink goof will want Gane as far away from a title as possible. Imagine he wins the vacant belt after Jones retires, the division would be seen as a joke. The UFC will probably match him with Blaydes or Almeida if he wins convincingly

It's a terrible fight for the UFC to make. If Gane wins, they'll derail Pavlovich with no benefit gained, as Gane will still be known as the guy with zero defence against wrestlers. Winning the fight does very little to change the perception of Gane and Gane winning it destroys the credibility of the division.

Pavlovich on the other hand has already built himself up as the #1 challenger with five consecutive 1st round KOs and proved himself against a wrestler too. The fight is simply large risk, little benefit in every way.
What has Sergei proven against wrestlers. Blaydes didnt even try to grapple. Its another hope and prayer that someone can hit hard enough to ko Jones. His son will handle the light work.

YOU stop with the revisionism. Plenty of people were here saying Jon wasn't the wrestler he once was, that if he couldn't take Reyes down he wouldn't be able to take a much bigger and athletic guy down in Gane, that on the feet Gane would beat him up and that Jones would never take that fight

Plenty of threads filled with comments like this were bumped. Now it was "obvious" that Jon was going to win it ahahah

Now he's scared of Sergei, like he was scared of Cormier, Gustafsson, Gane etc
Haters assume he's the biggest coward ever. He's just smart and calculated. He can assess risks and rewards for himself, and people hate that.

I never want to see this guy fight again. He put on two of the worst title performances in combat sports history. He needs to take a hard look in the mirror and really think about a career change.
Because he lost to Ngannou and Jones? You should switch forums to reddit where your silly takes are taken seriously.

This is pretty much it. Why would Gane even have the possibility to derail him? Pav has already earned his title shot.
Still, an interesting fight for sure.
Gane is gonna get crushed, his last fight showed as if he doesn't belong with the top guys lol, Sergei on the other hand deserves title shot, the guy who's 6-0 in his last 6, winning all of his fights by Knockout in the first round, and won his last fight by Knockout just recently in the first round, and ranked No. 2 (he should be No. 1 in fact), winning all fights by Knockout, fought 4 times in the last 13 months doesn't get title shot, but Stipe who's 2-2 in his last 4, hasn't won a fight since August 2020, and lost his last fight by KO, and hasn't fought for more that 2+ years gets a title shot? the UFC has became an absolute circus, just like how when the UFC now wants to give Colby a title shot over Belal, or when the UFC almost gave a title shot to Pena despite dominant loss, the UFC has became the new WWE fr, and the Dana White Privileges is fr too, it's like since when Tony mentioned it at UFC 262 press conference, Dana couldn't believe it to actually make this true!!!! where he make fighters have his privilege, and discard others and curse them.
Edit: Gane is gonna get crushed here, Jon broke his soul like he always does with his opponents, did he even take enough time to recover from this huge loss? Sergei should turn this shit down 100%, also Gane vs Spivak is more like it better, Forgot to add that Stipe just like Colby, both don't have wins over any guys in the top 15

Hopefully for him, about 80% of his training has been grappling.
