Bottom of the top 10, maybe. Chuck isn’t beating Jones, Gus, Santos, Reyes. Wouldn’t have beaten Cormier at LHW, not so sure he beats Anderson or Blachowicz either. Maybe those 2, I dunno.

Chuck also competed during the era when LHW was at it's strongest, when it was the marquee division in MMA. LHW is one of the weaker divisions today.

He beat up a bunch of grapplers that couldn’t take him down. I think Silva, Reyes, Jones and even Glover are better strikers than most of the people Chuck faced in his day.

Agree except for Glover. His striking is predictable and overrated imo. Left hook, right hook, left hook, right hook...

He competed in a very strong era but most of the time not vs the best fighters. When he did, he won some and lost. There was never a time when Chuck was Nr.1.

Look at his wins in Pride. They were all incredibly hard fought. Mezger gave him a battle to the last. Mezger alone gave Chuck more than Ortiz could ever muster. Overeem before his classic gassing at LHW put the pressure on him and Rampage destroyed him.

Chuck was a great fighter with a big heart. Especially his Vale Tudo shit in brazil was heroic stuff!! People forget about that but that took balls going to brazil back then with a more than violent surrounding.

He is an alltime great and in his prime he was fast enough to put quite some guys who compete nowadays away. But he always had a shit defense to the max.

You're crazy. He'd absolutely wreck Corey Anderson, Jan and Smith. Reyes is almost a better version of Chuck so he's losing that one. Santos is a tossup.

Any version of Jones takes him out.
People that say this type of shit have no boxing or mma experiance, chucks is a glorified brawler, he throws overhand after overhand, looks stiff while moving around, jan would destroy chuck, like literally 20 second in and out ko, its a tossup with santos who hits harder and is more athletic, technical with his strikes and movement, and yeah Reyes has a significant height advantage, hits hard and is very athletic, made jones run away...
Maybe the fact that Rampage and Rashad slept him should give you an indication what would happen vs current fighters.

The thing I like most about these hypothetical conversations is how many people will make 100% definitive statements about how this or that match up would go when they probably can't bat .500 trying to predict the outcome of fights on the next card.

They trained a lot together. I’m sure between them, they know who’s better.

LIddell was overrated as fuck. Even in today's age with average roster of LHWs, he would get smoked more often than not. He would be one of the guys, not the top guy. His skillset very limited, he is very hitable, and beside balls and toughness, not much to separate him from current top 10 guys.

True, that’s a good point. I wonder if Glover could drag him down and sub him? That’s a possibility. I think Chuck could probably handle Glover standing though.

Chuck beat many good strikers.

Funny you say Glover. Glover was Chuck's training partner. Chuck was the UFC Champ and Glover was the fighter on the rise. Even Glover says prime Chuck is the best LHW he has seen and says a prime Chuck would KO Jones and every current LHW.

If Santos and Reyes can land on Jones and arguably beat him, then I think a young Chuck could do the same. Chuck has more power than those guys too.

Prime chuck is like Jan Blackowicks

Prime chuck is like Jan Blackowicks
He would be sleeping fools like Jan is these days.

Chuck has way better footwork than Jan though. Chuck also had a larger striking arsenal than Jan. Chuck would throw punches from all angles and had better kicks than Jan. He also had a better chin than Jan. He also had better takedown defense than Jan.

I don't think he would be champ these days guys are to well rounded

Gets starched by more inteligent fighters, as much as mma fans like to jerk off to the idea of the old ufc or pride fighters being the best, mma is a very young sport and athletes are getting much better with time. Not to mention you cant do anything these days without having the ability to stuff a takedown or throw effective strikes at the top of the ufc.

Chuck could stuff a takedown with the best of them and he knows a thing or two about throwing effective strikes.

I could see prime Chuck matching up well with guys like Anthony Smith, Corey Anderson and Volkan.

Chuck used to train every day with Glover, he had legit skills in his prime.
