lol you are either trolling or far too ignorant of the message of Jesus to going on about it like some sort of authority.
If anything, I'd say he was a progressive conservative. He called out hypocrites in the establishment, consorted with hookers and tax collectors--the most reviled people in Roman-held lands among non-Romans. He rebuked the money changers at the temple due to their commercialization of religious observance--a lesson the Catholics implemented well when the printing press came along; but I digress.
It amuses me to hear you say being progressive is not Christian given the Sermon on the Mount. Do you want a refresher?
Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the Earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called the Sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you...
Do modern American Christians strike you as particularly meek? Do they seem to be peacemakers? Do they seem merciful to you?
