International Chinese Spy Balloon spotted flying over the Billings, Montana

LOL it was over Canada first for along time because they knew Trudeau was a spinless weasel and would never shoot it down.

have you seen canada's military? how in the fuck are they gonna shoot that thing down? fire timbits at it? launch i'm sorries and polite apologies at it? maybe tie a bunch of helium balloons to a moose and attach a long pointy needle to the moose, and then fly the moose up 120 thousand feet in the air to intercept the balloon? and then how the fuck are they supposed to get the moose back down to the ground before it enters US airspace and ultimately gets destroyed?

reading this thing was 61 meters tall (a more appropriate measurement than "three school buses long") and its WAAY bigger than I initially thought - which was about 10 meters tall. 61 meters is a big boy.

61 meters? i thought it was only gonna be around the size of 6 elephants, but that's impressive. thats about three school buses long, or the height of 11 male adult giraffes.

Here is an initial comparison they made when they said "as big as 2-3 city buses", which is like 20-35 meters.

But now that they revealed the true size of just the balloon, 200 ft, this is the updated charge (with the black outline of the balloon being the more accurate size of it. The hanging platform is what i guess they initially referred to as 2-3 buses wide, where as the balloon was like double that or more.

another interesting comparison I saw.

Compared to a 747, which is massive

yeah, these things are a lot bigger than most people expected.

Hadnt posted it yet since only on "far-right" outlets like zerohege, but now seeing it on the Financial Times

As per the FT: https://www.ft.com/content/8a2c77c3-58cc-471d-a187-1823faa4f1b6

In the most stunning evidence of China’s military use of stratospheric balloons, Chinese media including the military channel of state broadcaster CCTV reported in September 2018 that a high-altitude balloon tested hypersonic missiles.

Video footage carried by CCTV and reposted on social media app Douyin at the time, but now deleted, showed a balloon visually identical to the one over the US last week, carrying what looked like three different kinds of warheads.

According to Chinese media reports and a related Chinese Academy of Sciences research paper, they were models for “wide speed range” hypersonic vehicles, which can fly both below and above the speed of sound.

So? Just shows even CNN knows they have to call out Biden and lefty narrative on this bullshit to maintain any of their already crumbling credibility, which is exactly what I stated.

let me ask you tho while we discussing.

As an expert on these type of stuff, do you think this balloon with some technology could penetrate a SCIF’s structure to somehow be able to take pictures/scan classified TPS reports?
it shows cnn doesn't just have democrats parroting the party line.

but it certainly doesn't prove the approach taken was wrong. you'll always agree with your side. 100% of the time. it's just politics. not right or wrong. just left or right. if you were told to take a different position here you would.

and yes, if the balloon had superman on it he could definitely take pictures with his superman vision and provide them to china. what's your expert opinion based on your decades of experience?

Just to follow up on this.

Mattis witheld the balloon news from Bunker Boy
Milley warned China about a potential crazed nuke from Bunker Boy

In the world of Michael Flynns, be like Mattis and Milley

In all fairness Trump should never have been entrusted with the incredibly serious responsibility of lethal force. Biden is old as fuck and slow. That gives people time to make measured responses with appropriate amounts of information.

The nuke the hurricane dude definitely needs to stay away from the military. Mattis is a highly respected figure in the military

So it's about 3 or 4 thanksgiving parade Snoopy balloons in length, I wouldn't have thought.
Really puts things in perspective.

lots of xenophobes in this thread assuming its a spy balloon. if china owns land in the US they probably just wanted to get a better view of the land they own in the US that the US sold them. why always with the conspiracies and assuming the worst? the president said in the past that they arent a threat. the president said it guys.

dork.....wow......look at you!

Speaking on CNN’s “Fareed Zakaria GPS,” Philip Mudd judged the crisis a “2” on a scale of 1 to 10 when it comes to national security issues".

and plenty of experts didn't condemn it the way republican politicians did.

mostly a bunch of knuckleheads who pretend to be experts and decision makers.

real non-partisans see more nuance.

wow, this story just keeps inflating. So they have been floating 10+ balloons for years over our allies? Can the DOD and all them confirm all these other balloons were being "scrambled"? Can they have any evidence of that about this last one?

I love how these unelected people in the military or federal bureaucracies connect to the military, etc, hide this stuff from the elected government like the president and his cabinent, senate and house intel committees, etc

So we allowed them to go over Naval bases, Hawaii, Norfolk, and Coronado, as well as our internal ICBM and other sensitive sites. And despite scrambling the balloons apparently, the chinese keep sending these balloons for years now?

This makes absolutely no sense lol

Meanwhile, at a Pentagon press briefing, Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder disclosed that China had conducted four balloon surveillance missions over "sensitive sites" within U.S. territory during recent years, but did not disclose exactly when or where the incidents took place.

"They were over sites that would be of interest to the Chinese but I'm not going to go into the specifics," Ryder said.

However, a senior U.S. official told ABC Chief Global Affairs Correspondent Martha Raddatz that previous incursions into American airspace took place over Hawaii and off the coast of the continental U.S. -- specifically near Coronado, California, and Norfolk, Virginia -- where two of the nation's largest naval bases are located.

That official also advised that the U.S. had briefed India, Japan, Vietnam, and Taiwan -- all of which appear to have been surveilled by Chinese balloons.
