Nikolai moved to Dubai in 2017. The social media platform Telegram that the brothers had founded followed too and got UAE as it's new headquarters. Since 2021, he has also
been connected to France without ever living there. But he was mysteriously naturalized as a French citizen, and when he sent in his passport application he made an April Fools
joke where he Francizised his name to Paul du Rove. He forgot about it all, but got surprised later on as the application actually got approved and the passport reissued. Thus,
Pavel Durov's legal name in France is now Paul du Rove.
