Chiesa should probably retire at this point, I think he’s lost the fire. He was losing the entire fight and maintained this buddy buddy attitude. Laughing, joking around. What the hell? I know Chiesa has always suffered with performance nerves but this performance last night was just bizarre. He was happy to be there, not looking to reclaim his contendership. Way too at peace with losing. This was a guy that was so upset losing to Masvidal, Luque, etc. that he ran from the decision he wanted the win so bad. Last night he couldn’t care less

Had he fought in round 1 and 2 the way he fought in round 3, he probably wins the fight.

Seems like the luque fight made him more hesitant

I've never thought too highly of Chiesa but he could have won last night... just took too long to put the foot on the gas

i don't understand this Chiesa hate or underestimation.

He's done very well at WW, it really fits his long frame much more than LW did (and he was a decent LW). His only losses at WW are to Luque (in a fight he was winning until he got caught) and Sean Brady (who he nearly finished at the end of the fight, with Brady winning through boring blanketing, and Chiesa likely would have won in a 5 rounder).

I think he's still a very tough fight for a lot of WW's. Would not surprise me if he beat some of the top 5.

?? he actually looked good in a tough fight and really turned it on in round 3. Had they been the main with 5 rounds (instead of Taint) he would have almost surely won that fight.
Uncle Dana trying to push the Taint narrative lost him the fight.
Chiesa might to rework his strategy and pacing for the opponent in front of him but he doesn't need to retire.

This is literally only the second time he's lost at WW, settle down.
Yep. In a row. After being inches from a title shot and on the best run of his career. Now he gets taken down and says “oh geez they were right you are strong haha!” Then helps his man up after the bell. Even Brady was like ummm? After the fight he says he wishes he got the W but he had fun??? He’s done.

Retiring now would be dumb.

Yes, he probably will never be a champion but most of us knew that already.

The fact remains that he makes 80k show/win. And fight multiple times a year. So his annual salary is somewhere between 160k-480k yearly plus bonuses and reebok money. (Yes, I know UFC should be paying him more but sadly this is the reality we live in)

If he retires where is going to give a job that pays him that much??? He should stay and try to stack up as much money as possibly can.

On top of this, he hasn't really been damaged at WW I believe. He just got subbed by Luque but was winning that fight, and Brady kinda just blanketed him. I think if Chiesa wanted he could fight again very soon.

And let's not forget money he earns from commentary and stuff

I have a theory that Chiesa and Anthony smith got Dana White priviledges for live. That's why they got relatively nice match ups and role as color commentator.

The bus incident for Chiesa and the Jones knee for Smith made them gain Dana White priviledges.

Caveman Chiesa lost his soul when fighter Kevin Lee made him his bitch
Real talk though, he has always had shit submission defense and average striking
He was never going anywhere.

He fought fan favourites in a downward spiral in Diego and Condit.
And his fighting style stiffle most striking offense and volume.
He beat Magny and sent RDA back to LW. The same RDA who beat FKL.

I'm not saying he will be champ, but I think he's above gatekeeper level. Like a very good WW, who can maybe beat some of the best WWs.

Yes he lost to Brady but it was mostly through Brady blanketing him in the first 2 rounds. Chiesa came close to finishing him in the third. And had this been 4 rounds, I'm pretty sure Chiesa would have finished Brady in the fourth round.

Oh yeah I don't doubt that Chiesa is problem for everyone outside of the top 5.
He doesn't have an "it" factor but he's certainly good.
I really don't mind him that much but some just can't see him beating some peoples for some reason.

Vs Rda some users here just refused to think it was possible for Chiesa to win

Why would he just up and retire when he’s still got some options out there?

Him vs Colby would be a good fight for both of them at this stage in their respective careers, even though I doubt Colby would take that fight.

Maybe chiesa is still good but Brady just slipped by him. Brady gassed like hell. Chiesa probably could have been more aggressive in rd 1 and 2. It shows his cardio is better because he was able to listen to his coaches and try to empty the gas tank in rd3.

Most fighters don't even try to win after having a slow start in rd 1 and 2. We almost never see it.

I dont like chiesa and i had money on Brady.
