Chicken legs... an asset?

I don't think any amount of leg muscles would have prevented that break.

That was caused from a perfect bone on bone check and Anderson throwing it hard has hell.

And the fact Anderson was an old man whose bones had started to weaken.

Dude was clearly well past his prime before he ever fought The Chris.

everyone i know who ever did strength training emphasises that strength comes from training the nervous system, rather than from inflating the size of your muscles. training for beach muscles is completely different to training for strength, where any growth of muscle would be considered a side effect. the rep ranges and weights used for gaining strength vs gaining weight are completely different

Stipe is not skinny but he surley does not have big legs, picture of him with Cro Cop when he was training there shows that he has "thin" legs at least for HW standard. And then you have Cain who is short heavyweight with strong, big legs built like an ox.

Tito had average legs and his upper body was huge.

What a lovely cocktail dress.

I remember the first TUF that he coached on (against Shamrock) some of the guys on his team were busting on him for having chicken legs and he said, "That's how I make 205."

Yeah I think there definitely is a benefit in it, allows room for more upper body strength which is far more useful in mma imo

Yes, it allows you to have an upper body of a fighter a weight class or two above. I remember one time there was some uproar over a wrestler with 1 or no legs. He had the upper body of a guy a couple weight classes above, but only having the 1 or no legs allowed him to fight a few weight classes below.

Fighters with no legs have an unfair advantage.

Big legs really aren't that important to mma it seems. It seems like the best mma build is a bug head, a muscular torso and long limbs while skipping leg day.

In weight class system it's not a big deal because fighters don't have to lift heavier fighters. At HW you need very strong legs if you are not big.

I've heard that strength in MMA/grappling/wrestling is more about core and upper body then legs, so skipping leg day once in a while might not be that much of a detriment for a fighter.

Yeah you phrased it just right the way I meant, thanks!
