Holy shit, looks like the entire city of Grozny came out to watch Edilov's UFC debut. An unranked local fighter got more support than Dublin gave to Conor. Insane.

Also noteworthy is that he is a protege and relative of Kadyrov, and that will cause much controversy should he gain more exposure in the US.

Wish USA was more like Chechnya

Would also be cool if we supported our own that way too

There used to be a saying don't let politics come between sports. But fucktards can't help themselves.

Pansy-central Reddit for example can't go a day without mentioning how Khabib or [insert any Caucasian fighter here] is backed by some "warlord". He's actually not, he's from Dagestan not Chechnya and his backers are business tycoons not regional presidents. "But ohh ohh he took photos with Kadyrov".... Yeah, and he's had photos taken with alot of influential people. What these people don't realize or CARE to realize is that when you're from that part of the world, and someone of status invites you to an event or meeting: you just go.

Do they really expect these fighters to just tell these influential persons, you call a warlord or dictator, to just buzz off? Literally ANY athlete in Russia, and Central-Asia, went through the STATE subsidized wrestling, boxing and sambo institutions to be where they are. Taking part in the tourneys, win titles, so forth. So they're inevitably going to be "linked" to someone the West hates.

I really hope they don't try to pull the bullshit to try blacklist these deserving fighters. There's so much talent in that part of the world, and I think they're already underrepresented in these sports in the West.

imagine having to watch every Game of Thrones episode in Time Square?

Why are you putting warlord in quotations? Do you know nothing about who Kadyrov is? His champion in his promotion is in his army and he's been fighting and killing people since he was 15. And that's not an exaggeration. There's been a number of reporters who've gotten murdered for writing about him and his attacks on homosexuals. Not saying I have a problem with fighters from that region being associated with him, it's not really a choice they have. But Kadyrov himself, being a known dictator and linked to controversial murders, is the one keeping any fighter from going further because of how blacklisted he is.

Sherdog is so blindly pro-"Russian" they can't even tell when they are supporting terrorist fringe groups that are barely (if at all) acknowledged by Moscow.

Way to go, Sherdog. :::thumbs up:::

Actually you are wrong. Kadyrov called Khabib his friend and to be honest it looks to me that almost every month Khabib is in Chechnya at mma event hugging Kadyrov. And this actually a bit weird because years ago there were story when his relative Zavurov got into fight in Chechnya and said that he will never visit Chechnya again (but I think he changed his mind). And I've seen people mentioned that Khabib's father said that he will never goes to Chechnya again.
And problem with Khabib for which he even receives shit fron non-Chechens - Khabib is not Chechen and doesn't live in Chechnya so no one forces him to kiss Kadyrov's ass he is doing it on his own free will.

Not a single woman was seen that day

{<jordan}
From what I've seen it's the same at soccer - you can hardly see any females at soccer matches in Grozny during broadcasts. While in Dagestan you can see local girls cheering for non-Dagestani teams.

Agreed. I think it has a lot to do with both being Muslim and one hand washing the other. Khabib gets gifts and sponsorship from Kadyrov and Kadyrov gets to be homies with the most famous (currently) Russian athlete who just so happens to also be a Muslim. Now if Khabib was also enlisted in his army, he would be the perfect specimen in Kadyrov's eyes.
