Thanks for your advice everyone, I have a doctor's appointment next week.

The pandemic really shrunk my social circle and I'm actually pretty happy about it, I don't need to see a bunch of people I don't even like every few weeks just to be out and about...

I think that if you don't give people a plan its hard to get buy-in from the those at risk of flaunting freedoms, or being drawn into YOUTUBE wormholes of despair. If our leaders would have suggested a goal line like X amount of cases, or X amount of ICU admissions and we'll open shit up like this or like that, I think people would have been more sensitive to the importance of these measures.

In all honesty, I think we should have shot for the stars (0 cases) and accepted the moon (spot lockdowns, testing and vaccination in specific regions as cases appear) in order to open up instead of shooting for the top of the empire state building (arbitrary case load minimums) and accepting the fact that we can barely jump 10" (nobody knows what the fuck is going on).

I've seen the snippets of hat's going on in Canada. Just yesterday I saw a clip of some Polish pastor being arrested in the middle of the highway by Calgary police and the comments they received on social media weren't necessarily all that positive. Personally, at this juncture, I think we should have moved past the "sky is falling" fear we had last year and move on; If you're sick, stay home and if you want to alleviate any doubts go get tested and/or vaccinated(if you can).

I live in Florida and we've been open since September of last year and for the most part people have been pretty reasonable/responsible except for "Spring Break" in South Beach that was an absolute clusterfuck of chaos and people behaving rather feral. Other than that it's been close to pre-pandemic normal as it can get.
 
Apologies for on-topic talk, but I just watched Overeem "Bas Rutten" Lesnar's liver in his old UFC debut. I shouted LIVERSHOT! and then giggled like a school girl while he got the TKO. I miss being able to hit people and I even miss getting hit./old

Yeah that livershot pretty much folded Lesnar. My Thai boxing club has started back up following lockdown restrictions being eased, but I've been working so much I haven't been able to attend, I also miss hitting (being hit not so much!)
 
I know it's my self-destructive streak, but to take a solid land and return it as best you can is a joy without match. I also like coming back into full consciousness and realize that your body and lizard brain have been trying to knock their block off while your brain was sent on the Kessel run by a straight right. The aftermath sucks, when your adrenaline is spent and it hurts like hell. I don't try to get hit, but if your primary goal is not getting hit, you're less fun to spar with IMHO. That doesn't really apply for serious competition or when you are trying to kill each other, but I like sparring when both people are just working and having fun.

I can understand that people are not terribly scared of this disease, and that it is by all accounts, not that severe in a lot of cases. However our healthcare system is not designed to deal with a situation like this. When COVID ICU cases are high it pushes everything down the priority ladder and people suffer and wait longer for diagnostics, treatments in some cases people are hesitant to even go to their scheduled appointments and so we're at a point where we will be playing catch up for a long time.

My neighbor across the street thinks Covid is a hoax because if it was real and serious there would be parades of hearses down our streets everyday. There's not really anything you can say to someone like that. On the flipside one of the other Dads on my street works at Sunnybrook Hospital (I think he's in security, not doctor/nurse/etc) and sees it first hand every day.

My entire family had covid at the beginning of April and whlie it was mild and I guess not that big a deal it still wasn't pleasant (feeling like shit and also bein quarantined at home with 3 young kids and no help) I'm also not short-sighted enough to not realize it affects everyone differently.

I just really want this to be over because being stuck around the house, especially with schools closed, is really wearing us down.
 
In other news, I was cleaning the garage on the weekend and came across my Muay Thai gear. I bought new gear and then due to injuries and just life getting in the way barely used it. I can probably sell it to make some money back. It makes me slightly sad to think I probably won't ever do MT again but also my de-trained body probably couldn't handle one of their crazy "warm-ups".

I feel you on the gear sadness. Almost all of what I have done fighting wise is boxing. I went to a crusty boxing gym for a couple years and then I would get guys I work with to spar. I carried two sets of sparring stuff, a round timer, and a set of mitts. It's all still in a duffle bag untouched for years.

I actually had three sets of gloves. I bought my wife a pink pair of 12 ouncers for bag work and the other two were 16s. If I was sparring with someone I wanted to fuck with, I'd tell them not to worry, I'd wear the pink ones then knock the snot out of them a few times before switching to the 16s.

Running is something I'll do forever. Striking is probably gone forever.
 
I need some new sparring gear soon. It's been a few years, but now it's getting regular use again, and I'm starting to be able to tell that I've had my shinpads for 6 or 7 years so.

Really enjoying being back to working with the fighters again though. Taking one guy for weigh-ins tonight, and he's fighting tomorrow. More and more guys are starting to show some promise as well, which is rad. Also, the better they get, the more good training partners I have.
 
I have an old pair on Twins 10oz that I've had since I started Thai about 16 years ago. They are held together with duct tape but I can't seem to let them go - still use them for bag and pad work. For sparring I have a pair of 16oz Windy gloves that are still holding up well, but they are comparatively new at around 12 years old - this probably tells you how irregularly I manage to train in Thai.
 
With a little bit of luck gyms will reopen within the next few weeks around here. That would be absolutely great.
 
So, I had my appointment concerning potential exercise-induced asthma today. Underwhelming to say the least. Doctor said he doesn't have the equipment necessary to test for it and does not believe I have it. I wouldn't play rugby if I had and I should try drinking more water.
I'm considering getting a 2nd opinion, should I? Or should I listen the doc and let it be?

I have had to learn that we need to be the advocates for our own health. If you really feel there’s something there and aren’t satisfied with how the first doctor assessed you, no harm in seeing someone else.

*this is not to say we should WebMD ourselves and that we therefore know more about health and medicine than medical professionals.
 
Second on what @Aleks Sytsevich said. Asthma has levels of severity. You couldn't play rugby with untreated severe asthma. There is also adult onset asthma, so you may just be getting it. The testing equipment is probably a treadmill and an oximeter for testing exercise induced asthma. If it isn't a pain in the ass or wallet, maybe try a specialist like a pulmonologist or an asthma and allergy specialist. When you have tightness and/or wheezing, you can try hot coffee or tea to see if that eases symptoms. The steam and the vasodilation from caffeine should ease bronchospasm and inflammation while loosening mucous. Putting your head under a towel over a sink of hot water and breathing the vapor will help some too. If you get relief from these treatments, there is a good chance you have asthma. I'm not a doctor, but I am a biologist that has dealt with asthma my whole life. If you're just getting it, it could get more severe. You don't want to wait until your lips turn blue to know for sure.

Here's a long weekend topic:

I will be making fresh from scratch lemon limeade and yaupon holly tea to mix with vodka for hard Arnold Palmers for tomorrow's day drinking and foraging in the woods. I'm taking recommendations for primo vodka. Blue Smirnoff or Stoli is what I used to get. It's been a couple years since I've had any liquor.
 
I've been on the brandy and whisky tonight....feels good.
