Media Chase Hooper is a black belt now.

If homey standing next to him could stretch his neck out just a bit farther , he could escape manlet status

This seems fishy. I remember being in a BJJ facility and your belt ranking started at 16. Anything before that was just child belts. You needed 2 years to become a blue belt, another 2 for a purple and then within the next 3-5 years you get your black belt.

At 16 you are eligible for the adult belts. He probably was promoted to blue at 16 and ranked accordingly from there. Bear in mind that a consistent kid who started training at 8 will have more mat time by the time they turn 20 than most hobbyists will ever have.

Congrats. Now it's time for him to go somewhere else and see how his bjj stacks up against other schools and continue to learn and grow.

BJ Penn got his black belt in record time and still was a BJJ champ. Some people are faster through the ranks than others.

Legit BJJ black belt as a 21 year old? Thats fucking impressive. Who is it under? cant find it anywhere.

Yes let's compare Mundials champ to Chase Hooper. Brain dead ftw.

Congratulations to Hooper, that's a remarkable achievement for someone so young. His last fight was awesome and I am a fan.

It takes around 10 years of training regularly (2-3x a day every week) to get a black belt at most legit BJJ places.

Chase started at age 8 and has spent 13 years training and has been aiming to be a pro-fighter so has definitely trained more and harder than an average practitioner. Yes he didn't have "real belts" when he was a kid but he was developing skills at light-speed and practicing them on older opponents (once you are 14-15 and pretty good they will let you roll with adults at a lot of places as well).

I'm sure by the time he was 16 he was tooling "real" blue belts, so he likely got moved up the ladder quickly for the lower level belts. Nothing wrong with that, kid put in the time on the mats.

It's blood, sweat, and tears with no shortcuts - he earned it, much respect to him.

I like this kid. He's been training with Wonderboy lately. Expect a striking clinic.
