Kirk's head of security was on the Shawn Ryan show and confirmed there was no exit wound. First time I'm hearing confirmation of this from someone who actually is in the know. This guy him discussing it:

Exactly, bullets can do really weird things. There's videos on Youtube of guys shooting ballistic gel, and the rounds will randomly skew and pop out for no reason, or just stop short from completely going out. It looked like Charlie got shot right at the base of his neck, so it could have hit some kind of bone that messed with the trajectory.

I don't believe a lot of the videos going around though, saying his lapel mic was a weapon, or that he was shot from a different location, it looks legit.

That's not completely correct. You might want to check the autopsy and sketches they have of what the wound looked like before the dissection.
