Champs "staying busy"

As long as they're fighting whoever the next available contender is sure. This has been the story of Izzy's reign. He's always fighting somebody on only a few fight win streak as he fights so often they just give him whichever contender is next up/ready. If he fights DDP that'll be the longest streak of anybody and it's only 6 wins.

Nobody's had a problem with this. In fact everybody's loved having a champ who fights every 4 months.

I was pretty annoyed at Strickland's lobbying for a title shot. All things being equal, he certainly doesn't deserve one (not that the 'd' word actually means anything....)

But the simple fact is, UFC needed a headliner. DDP couldn't do it, Izzy wanted it...something had to give.

So they made a fight.

It's not typical, and it's fine.

Honestly, I was way more annoyed that they gave Bisping 2 unranked defenses (Hendo & GSP) in the most stacked MW era in the history of the UFC. Those were thought out decisions, whereas this is a last minute situation.

The divisions get really weak once you go past the top 5, sometimes before that. So they could still fight a top 10 contender and have a pretty safe fight. If the champ wants that fight, I say give it to them.

That's different than what we are talking about here though; those fights are $$$, which always takes priority in the UFC.

Leon was a worthy contender. Niko not so much. I have no problem with any fighter getting a shot as long as they've earned it.
Ok, fair enough, but the question is if we don't have contenders... At the end of the day, it doesn't matter who will fight for a title, once a fighter is available it makes him eligible.

You're right. I deconstructed the OP's question and answered a different one, heh. Apologies, to you and OP.

However, I'd argue that the question I answered (and was not asked) is actually more pertinent ;)

Recently, Hill was frustrated that Jira wasn't ready and UFC wouldn't book another fight. That also is a different question than what OP asked.

So I guess I wonder how common this question posed, really is? That a Champion wants a fight in 2-3 months and none of the top 5 or top 8 can commit? Very, very uncommon I would say. Because the UFC always has ulterior motives (as you said, "$$$, which always takes priority in the UFC").

TLDR: you can ignore all this rambling because SFF is more interested in answering questions not asked instead of the question asked.

It just depends. Doing that often could allow a champ to duck the rightful contenders by taking other fights to avoid them.. kinda what Izzy is doing now to avoid DDP and fight the easier and safer opponent in Strickland. Izzy did this because now DDP will have to fight again or sit out nearly a year if he wants to wait for a title shot, during which time someone else could do something to go viral and jump ahead of him (Khamzat beating Costa) and then DDP again gets screwed and has to fight someone to stay busy himself. Long story short Izzy is a coward with one titty.

Ts, do/did you only bang 10/10 girls when you go out?
Sometimes you gotta settle for something you're not proud off just to stay busy.

Also Champs stay busy when there's no clear contender and no one is available.
I am okay with it when the contender is busy, in the top 10 and has momentum.

So no bums like Niko Price lol

I liked how pride would give a gimme/non ranked fight to champions once in a while...it breaks up the monotony and it puts added pressure on the champ to defend against the big underdog.

If the underdog wins it causes huge commotion in the mma world which is fine with me
this is a great idea. the only problem i had with TS' post was that it was implied all of the fights would be title fights. if no contenders are available - non title bout to keep busy.

Lol I just now edited that post to include that those should be non title fights (when a non ranked fighter gets to jump the line for a ts)

If it was someone's job to line up women for me to bang and all of the sudden no one good is available, I'd be disappointed in their inability to maintain a decent pipeline (pun intended) and ask them what the problem is.

There's never been a moment in my life when I've thought, "I'm tired of tapping attractive women, I'm ready for an assgoblin!"

That's one thing I'll give Alex and Izzy credit for. Those two seem to do better by staying active. God knows ufc needs it's precious title ppvs

Fuck yeah, anything for more fights I'm 100% down for, as long as theres some stipulations so champ cant pick and choose their way into a bunch of bs title defenses I am 100000% in favor of this

I would love to see champs beat up on "inferior comp" if it meant more activity.

A lot of yalls favs would also be exposed but thats for another thread.<{ByeHomer}>

That's easy, Colby isn't worthy of a title shot at WW but other WWs are.
But if you're just doing keep-em- busy title fights, you're gonna hit situations where a worthy guy isn't getting a shot because of scheduling conflict, silly injury with a short recovery, something, while a non worthy guy gets the fight.

You think meritocracy is bad now, it is non existent under "keep em busy" format.
