Champions who got derailed

"Welcome to the Machida Era."

Pettis man I don't understand what the hell happened. He's young, he's in his prime but it's like he lost something. He looked amazing versus Cowboy and Lauzon and he had slick subs versus Gil and Henderson nowadays it looks like he has no desire.

Back on topic

Lesnar, Brocktober was one and done.

I think he did more than he ever thought he would do and fell into this false sense of his "new self" ..maybe got over confident and felt he could believe his hype for a bit, but didn't realize how hard it is to stay at the top.

I was disappointed with Holly Holm against Miesha Tate. Miesha spent a lot of time in Holly's realm and was largely untroubled but in the little time Holly spent in Miesha's realm, Miesha looked very dangerous and even securing a submission on I think what was the second time of asking.
Styles make fights, Tate still got outstruck and lost every round that was spent on the feet, don't blame the counter striker blame the person refusing to engage. Holm isn't an aggressive fighter unless she's backed into a corner, still soundly won every round that was spent on the feet, let's not act like Tate is some world class striker.

JDS to a degree. Has flip flopped between wins and loses after beating Cain.

The W's that he does have since then he has taken A LOT of punishment in those fights too

No one besides the first you posted is the same size of Anderson. And he isn't that good, so it doesn't count.

Weidman was the first who match his reach and everything else.

forrest grifin?

james irvin?

Jermey horn?

lee murry?

Tate's striking is a little over standard in strictly mma terms, I never said she was even exceptional. My point was that she spent a lot of time on the feet and perhaps Holly should of took advantage of that.

It isn't really above average, she got badly outstruck on the feet by McMann for 80% of their fight when it was standing, she's got this false perception of being above average just because she dropped Jessica Eye.

2014 - 2016 Renan Barao - After winning 32 fights in a row and finishing all three of his title defenses, Barao looked unbeatable until losing 3 of his last 4, and taking 2 beat downs from Dillashaw.

2015 and 2016 Anthony Pettis - In august of 2013, he became champion by submitting Bendo in the first round, he looked unstoppable destroying Melendez the following year, after winning 9 of his last ten fights he was destroyed by RDA and has lost 3 in a row all against opponents he would have been heavily favored against back in 2014.

Late 2015-2016 Ronda Rousey - Undefeated, all wins by finishes, gets blown out in the first 2 rounds and then hasn't fought again after 7 months, and has gotten re-injured, delaying any comeback for another 6 months or longer.

Who will be the next derailment?

To clarify, a derailment isn't a loss, its several consecutive losses that are 1 sided, OR in the case of Rousey being beaten into "semi-retirement"

I don't know if you would call it an official derailment but the effect has been the same for Johny Hendricks. He lost his title fight against GSP, then he beat Robbie Lawler, then he lost to Lawler, then he missed weight for a fight that would have given him another title shot and he ended up in the hospital his weight cut was so bad, then he beat Matt Brown, then he was given a fight against Wonderboy that would have put him back into title contention and he got beat via MURDERTRAIN.

You see I think you CAN put Conner in there. It's been a bad year for him. Last year he wa the second coming, had the world at his feet. Some of the pics he posted and the level of arrogance and self belief he emitted had even the most cynical of us wondering if he might be the greatest of all time. Then he gets hammered by a mediocre LW and tries to alpha male the UFC and lost miserably, even expressing regret about not 'jumping on the damn flight'. He's still got the chance to be great, but he aint that super man come mystic mac we all thought he was.

And Pettis...so weird. When he beat Bendo (who looked amazing himself at that time) I honestly thought he might be one of the greatest to ever enter the octagon. His stand up was so dynamic, and he was great on the ground.

I hope both these guys come back to top form because I'd actually love to see Conner and Pettis go at it

How do you think Meisha would against a bald, 175lbs, 40 year old man who knows how to work a bag but hasn't had abs in over a decade?

Salty boy!
You are lame as fuck.

Lol okami, vitor, griffin, bonnar, & chael were all his size & that's just off the top of my head.

Anderson had a reach advantage over all those you mentioned. Thinking those are the same size as him is like thinking Conor and Nate are the same size.

Current MW fighters would wreck him anyways.
