champions who aren't good at overcoming adversity?

Aldo, yan, Conor

Featherweight Conor was able to in the Mendes fight, also overcame a torn acl in the fight with Max, recovered well after that last minute of round 3 in the Diaz rematch as well (though the first fight was an early example of him losing steam early). He started gassing and running out of steam more so after he returned from the long absence due to the Mayweather fight.

Perhaps a matter of semantics but I never felt like Jose gave up or looked for a way out. He took BEATINGS vs Max and Petr Yan and it was clear his cardio just wasn't there but I don't recall him quitting, even when it was hopeless and he had no path to victory.

There are ways a fighter can end a beating.
They can tap (GSP Serra 1)
They can turtle up, (GSP vs Serra 2)
they can give up their back and get RNCd (Conor vs Nate)
They can say their hand is broke (Max vs Pettis)
Say they can't see.

Aldo took his beatings.
He was outmatched and out cardio-ed a few times.
What i see post max is that Aldo will basically accept bad positions and take the L on points against guys who he can't outclass or bully. Like his last fight, or his fights against merab or volk

A lot of heavyweights fall in the front-runner category. I’d say Carwin, Cain, Vitor, Brock, Overeem (even though he never became champ), Ngannou.. all exhibit front-runner qualities. Either they destroyed people or lost with the exception of Lesnar vs Carwin.

Ronda is probably the best example
Thanks. Felt pretty good about that post TBH.

I mentioned that fight. But how good is that example? He suffered a flash knockdown and came back which is impressive but he was in control of that fight. The most one-sided adversity he faced were in his losses.
Haven’t watched it in a while but I feel like even just this one example pushes him well past some of the others who have been mentioned here. It was a tough fight and there were a lot of dangerous fire fight moments he had to push through.

Compare that to a guy like BJ, supremely talented as he was there were many examples of him folding once he hit real adversity, in his prime no less, and not a single example I can think of where he overcame losing to be victorious.

I'm not trying to be funny, I don't recognize this fighter, which is strange because I like WMMA. Was she a champion? I'm guessing she had the belt taken from her in brutal fashion.

Inaugural W125 champ. Never defended. When she was finally supposed to defend against Shevchenko the second time (I believe they were supposed to meet but then Montana needed surgery) she came in so heavy there was no way she was going to make weight. UFC stripped her then Shev and JJ fought for the belt.

Cain was dropped twice by Kongo and battled back ……Brock overcame a beatdown against Carwin

Former #PowerSlap WW champ KO Christapher Thomas

If him nuh KO u in 1-2 hits bro jus mentally breaks 🚫♥️

Leon literally pulled off an upset win in the last round despite being behind scoring. How it is again that he wasnt able to overcome adversity?
he landed a headkick, in the belal fight he showed no urgency or ability to come back in later rounds

BJ Penn.

I can't recall scenarios where he turned around a fight he was losing. He was a HUGE front runner. Once the tide turned on him, it didn't turn back.

He did give a much larger Lyoto Machida a good fight the entire match.
