Movies Chameleon actors or Charismatic actors - Which do you prefer?

In most movies I prefer charisma actors but in certain dramas especially historical or of a popular novel I prefer Chameleons .

Chameleon, as it serves the film overall better and isn't just about the performer, but it's always cool to see an actor that can jump into different types of roles so well and is also charismatic and a legit lead like a Kurt Russell.

Tough one.

What I do enjoy is when an actor shows their skills and is completely out of their normal typecast.
To name a few:
Steve Carell in Foxcatcher
Ed Norton in American History X
Robin Williams in One Hour Photo
