Izzy is a tough task, but I would absolutely bet on prime Chael. He's one of the few wrestlers who kept his takedowns sharp. Izzy is an excellent fighter- a better fighter- with good tdd, killer striking, and perhaps underrated bjj. But he's still a tall kickboxer with skinny legs. One thing I'm sure of is Chael double-legging him easily at least once. As for getting the W, it would take the best Chael, savage, gritty, juiced Chael, who doesn't fold. The guy that fought Marquardt and Silva.
 
Honestly it's a pretty ideal matchup to me for Sonnen (the Chael that fought Anderson the first time)

No doubt Izzy could catch him coming in.
But really I'd honestly think Chael could get him down and wear him out. Jan did it and Chaels double is light years ahead of.... Well... Most fighters.

People really underrate Chaels punches as well, enough of a threat to not just worry about solely the takedown
 
On one hand, the person Chael Sonnon lost to was really Chael Sonnon. On the other hand, Chael Sonnon couldn't even beat Chael Sonnon. Not sure how you expect him to beat Izzy.
 
Today's MW division is very weak. Just like LHW and HW.

Prime Sonnen, prime Hendo and prime Lindland would all give Israel problems but they could lose to him too.

Prime Jacare, Prime Weidman, Prime Romero and prime Rockhold were all better than Rob IMO and would have given Israel major problems as well.

And I love Israel.

zero threat standing? tell that to Anderson who was dropped twice by Chael standing. he may not put you in the shadow realm but he had good fundamentals and used his striking good enough to close the distance to get the TD.

I think Chael would honestly dominate Izzy 50-45 decision. I don't think Izzy is as good of his back as Anderson.
 
From what we've seen, I think Izzy has better TDD than Anderson, but also is way worse off his back, and he doesn't have the same submission threat. Chael has the best double leg in MW history IMO, and took down pretty much everyone. I can't really think of anyone off the top of my head that he shot on and didn't take down. The Chael that fought Anderson the first time would likely beat Izzy IMO. Chael is literally made to beat strikers that lack a submission threat. Problem with Chael is that he often defeats himself by doing stupid shit or giving in at the first sign of adversity.

I know the threads about Prime Chael but his striking was looking much improved in Bellator towards the end as well
 
Chael dropped Anderson more times than Izzy did.
 
I also think Sonnen is fully capable of grinding out a win against Adesanya. He could dominate.

Sonnen sticks with his strengths. He would go for an immediate takedown at the start of every round and he is more than capable of getting it.

Sonnen could make it look like the first Silva fight except Adesanya doesn't have the submission skills to be a threat.

Maybe even more important, his top control was top tier. It was impossible to get him off of you without submitting him.

Having said that, he was on TRT for the first Silva fight and it was still pre-usada afterward.
