Chad Mendes removed from 157

This makes no sense. One, training injuries within two weeks of the card are inexcusable. Two, the UFC should not have been caught flat-footed again. Even without a fighter on standby, there should be some idea of who can be called up in case of an emergency. They could even use a LW and make it a catchweight bout. There are better options than cancelling/moving the fight.

It just strikes me as strange that the UFC couldn't offer a good fighter enough to take this fight. I hope we learn who turned it down.

this fight doesnt seem that important to the ufc - they'd have a replacement ready probably if it was a fight they cared about (in my opinion only of course)

Really think the 145 pound division is the least deep division in UFC. Erik Koch and Ricardo Lamas contenders, really? It's Jose Aldo, Mendez, Edgar, few other guys and then that's it. That's why I like the idea of guys moving down from 155 to make the division better. Outside of the top 5 in UFC, even Bellator's featherweight division looks on par at times with UFC's. They really need to look at the entire world, indies, up and comers, and all of these things with guys fighting at 155 as well and make this division better. In order to improve I think that getting more fighters like Jimi Hettes is the way to go right now and encouraging average guys at 155 like Jim Miller or Joe Lauzon to step down to 145.

145 is actually becoming one of teh best divs in the UFC and one of the deeper divs.

Aldo, Edgar, pettis, Lamas, Koch, Dustin, Cub, Guida, Zombie, SIver, Hioki, Oliveira, Yahya, Hirota, Brandao, Brimage, Bermudez, Mendes, Manny, Hacran Dias, Ronny Jason, Lentz, Nunes, Elkins, McGregor, Nam, Holloway, Akira, Blanco, Peralta, Pato, Hettes

Thats a good div.

I don't understand why people are bitching about this card. There are some pretty good matchups

Nah I think they dont want to give Mendes another easy W, I know Manny isnt the biggest name or the best FW but thats atleast a better fight than another bottom div guy or prospect getting a weeks notice.

This way he is ready to go for a card in April, maybe TUF finale, this way maybe you match him with Guida or Siver, one of the top guys.

Lamas would of been cool but suposely he just signed a fight in May (he said it will be announced shortly)

You're simply not going to see anyone in the division raising their hand to offer their services to fight Mendes.

If you mean other top guys, I agree. But someone in bottom 10 to 20 should, I would think, jump at the opportunity to fight a top 5 guy on a PPV card. And it's a check.

You'd assume so at the least . It'd probably be a prime opportunity for Leonard Garcia if he wasn't

They should throw Pettis in there and make him actually earn the Aldo fight.

That must suck to have gone through most of a training camp for nothing. No one in the top 10 is going to take a fight on short notice against someone that had a full camp. You'd figure someone in the bottom who wanted to catapult themselves in the rankings would though. Maybe they have and Mendes or the UFC said no thanks but it doesn't seem like it.

I think it's a good thing. Many FW are coming back to fight in the mid year and he might get better match ups on that time. But we can't deny it's a loss for the UFC 157 card

I think it's time to remove Manny from the UFC roster. Cut him, let him go. He's getting injured way too often these past couple of years. SO much in fact that it's derailed any momentum the guy ever gains and more importantly, it hurts his opponents, the fans, and the UFC when a fight is cancelled because of it. He's not reliable anymore, time to let this fish go back into the small ponds. He's not fit to handle the oceans of the UFC.

Haha, he always seemed like a guy with bark, but no bite.

Rewatch Gamburyan getting KO'd by Rob Emerson, I plead with you all:

When his head lifts up, after getting dropped, before Emerson clobbers him again, he somehow looks like Matt 'Joey from Friends' LeBlanc!

Anyway, unsurprising, Mendes is a beast and few would take a fight with him at such short notice. He probably got offered someone like Felipe Arantes and just didn't think it was worth it - no legit contender would step-in so close to fight night.

This may be his punishment for having that horrible nickname.

He deserves another shot at Aldo

Just feed him a few guys to pad his record

Such a shame. He was going to make me so much easy money.
